It was our first time in Berlin and this place was recommended by the staff at our hotel. Sophien did not disappoint! Great beer, pork knuckles and bratwurst. We were so pleased with our dinner. We sat at the garden area and it’s very...well decorated, very homey with lots of greenery. Highly recommended!
Found this close to our hotel. The food was local style pork knuckle, cabbage roll and goulash with homemade noodles. The mains tasted good. The goulash could have had more grave and the sauerkraut with the knuckle had an odd flavour, as did the...mashed potatoes. The strawberry torte for desert was very good. Beware they only take cash. We ate in the courtyard which was nice.
Restauration Sophien Sophienstraße We happened upon the Restauration Sophien on our very first evening in Berlin. We were accommodated within minutes even though we had trucked up unannounced at a busy time on a Friday night. We stood in the hall waiting while...the Ladies busied themselves in and out with food and drink. I could see an old-fashioned till at the bar and the walls and surfaces were decorated with odd and charming ornaments but this wasn't a contrived themed restaurant. A table had become available so we were guided through to an equally eclectic ivy-covered courtyard with tables in full swing. People dined amid water features and walls adorned with clogs, jugs, crockery filled shelves and other collectibles. The Staff were friendly, welcoming and clearly knew their trade inside and out. When the food arrived, none of the dishes were what we had expected and we were delighted with what we were presented. The meatballs were flat medallions, the Wellington came as a flat pastry with the beef strewn upon it and I had not one but three fried eggs on my Potsdamer Gemüsetell (not that I knew what one of those was anyway). All were said to be delicious by those who ate and by the sounds of our fellow eaters around the courtyard, they also enjoyed what they were served. I highly recommend this restaurant and amongst the many accents, were heard some locals which is always a good sign. It seemed a popular spot and the tables inside started to fill up as we ate on.
