Backstreets Grill - Hickory

Rude waitress. Treated my young daughter and her friends with disdain when my daughter made a mistake with her bill and said yes to getting change back even though change due was under a dollar. She is young and still learning how to do things on her own. I understand the waitress was busy and probably tired. However it was an honest mistake and she was bringing change back for the other girls. My daughter felt terrible when she realized. When the waitress brought the change back, she very rudely and in front of everyone at the table told my daughter the she guessed my daughter needed her 23 cents more than anyone else. I called. D spoke with the manager this evening. Manager was very unapologetic and simply said he would talk to the waitress and the head office. No apology. At. All.

I had the special chicken fried chicken last night. The waitress said it was the best she had ever had. It was crispy and had a good amount of gravy but could have had more. The flavour was not bad but I would still prefer to have Cracker Barrel Chicken Fried Chicken which has a better flavor and is more moist. The mashed potatoes were really good with garlic and potato skins mixed in. The green beans had a great flavor but I had three bites that had stems from the plant in with them. Restaurant was clean and quaint. I would like to try their burgers at some point to see how they taste. Our waitress was very polite and attentive to us.

My family ate lunch here on a Sunday afternoon. We were seated immediately which is unheard of on a Sunday. The service was great. Our waitress was very attentive. The food did not take to long to come out and the taste was decent. A place to stop if you are just looking for a bite to eat.

The first time that I went to this restaurant, I fell in love with their White Bean Ham soup. But whenever I visit that area now, they never have it. My husband misses the meatloaf too. Anyway, everything else that I've ordered has been delicious, though. The salads are great. I love that they have outdoor dining!

Everything was really good but I don't give out 5 stars because I believe there is always room for improvement. Saying that, I'm not sure where they could improve. Had an awesome time celebrating my wife and I's 20th anniversary with our son who we haven't seen in a year since we dropped him off for college. Had a very enjoyable dinner. Wife had ribs, son had prime rib and I had meatloaf. Grilled vegetables and mashed sweet potatoes. I'd recommend all these entree's and the mashed sweet potatoes stole the show.
