One of our favourites, great coffee and fancy pieces, I particularly liked the strudel. This is a busy wee place especially on a Sunday morning when many other places are closed. The staff are always friendly and efficient and there is always a friendly atmosphere.

We are not normally keen on Italian restaurants other than in Italy, but we were staying in the nearby hotel, we had been driving for most of the day and the restaurant was dog friendly. The food was reasonable, it was not as good as real Italian food but it was fine. The wine and beers likewise. I’d have given just 3 points if the review was based on the food alone, but the staff were really good and very attentive. I also left my glasses in the restaurant and went in past at lunchtime the next day to pick them up. No problems and the restaurant was very busy with families, so I guess it has a good reputation locally. I had thought that it was quite expensive for Italian food but that was until we ventured into the town centre the next day, wow! You need to be rich to eat out a lot in Reims centre! I’d certainly not search this restaurant out, but it is a good choice if staying at the nearby hotel.

We went here for lunch as it was recommended to us for snack lunches. It was more than that and the food, though simple, was really very good. With drinks expect the bill to be around 20eu per head. The only down side was that they did not serve coffee!! In Italy!! There were plenty cafes around, so it was not a problem. I'll be back.

We were recommended to the Caffe Tomaso by our host. It is not that easy to find, but it is worth the effort. The menus is simple, but the ingredients are all fresh and beautifully cooked. There is a good choice of wines that can be enjoyed by the glass and the staff were attentive and cheery. We visited on a Saturday night and it was busy, so the service was not the fastest, but as there was a lovely ambience, we were happy to wait. We ordered 4 x mains and 2 x starters, (the guys) and the starters arrived at the same time as the mains for the ladies. That was unusual, but it worked out fine. We did not have coffee or sweet and with wine we were just over 25eu per head. I certainly intend to revisit when I am next in Udine.

I had intended to go to another nearby restaurant for lunch but arrived here and I am glad that we did. It has a simple menu which seems to cater mostly for office workers, but there is a good choice of wine by the glass, snacks, salads and mains, all freshly made and good. I am sure I'll return when I am next in Udine.

I have had better Spritz, and at 5eu cheaper too. But it was good, the staff very friendly and a seat by the harbour boardwalk gave us a great view of the lake and the boats coming in and out. The sparrows would take the food off the table if they could. We spent a while here savouring our drinks, we were not hurried by The staff even when diners started to arrive. It was very pleasant.

We visited San Macario following a recommendation that the pastries were excellent and they are. The coffee (Goppion) is also really good. We loved the jam filled brioche, probably the best we have tasted in Udine. It is a small cafe though and very popular (rightly so) so it is not always easy to get a seat or a space in the car park. As we are on holiday, we could avoid the busy times. It was not too far away from the apartment where we were staying and after visiting once, my wife did not want to go anywhere else.

I had seen mixed reviews but thought I’d give it a go as it was close to our hotel and I understood it was dog friendly. There is a terrace at the side where you are seated if you want to smoke or if you have your pet with you, so that is where we went. It was late October and the night was quite chilly and although a few patrons gave up and went to sit inside we couldn’t and there was no sign of the patio heaters being put on. We are from the north of Scotland though so, we managed. The food was fair and typical of a student oriented burger bar. The chips were great, the chicken strip starters with sauce were likewise pretty tasty and although I enjoyed my burger, I have had better. I was asked how I like it cooked and I wanted it to be medium, but notwithstanding my preference there was no pink meat and a distinct lack of juice coming from the burger. Now this is a matter of individual taste, I like my burger to be coarse, loose and juicy, this was finely minced and tightly packed. It tasted fine, it was good quality meat but not the way I prefer. Beer and wine were good and affordable, so no real complaints.

We have stopped in the Ace Hotel in Valence twice now en. Route from the UK to Spain. On our first stay in Valence we had eaten tea in a motorway stop, but once we arrived at the hotel we saw that there were alternatives within walking distance of the hotel. This time was arrived with our pet Spaniel who was making his first trip abroad. The other eateries are a KFC, a kebab taco cafe and a patisserie, but we opted for L’Art Terre. Thankfully they were dog friendly and were very welcoming. We got a generous discount as we were staying at the Ace, but the discount was returned by way of a well deserved tip. Friendly and smiling staff, good food, tasty wine by the glass and cold refreshing beer. Just what was needed after the drive from Calais. It left such a favourable impression with us that we aimed to stop there for lunch on the way back, but unfortunately their opening hours are conventional and we were too late.
