After being let down by another city restaurant who couldn't cater for one additional person we booked in at Fish Head. We were so glad we did. We opted for the banquet which was generous and delicious. The staff were very attentive and kept our glasses topped up. We loved British India and love Fish Head just as much. Great for group bookings.
Fish Head is a hidden gem that's nestled in the heart of Adelaide's Chinatown. This was my second visit to the restaurant and the food was absolutely delightful! I had the Otak Otak - an interesting take on a Malaysian classic - was given 2 generous portions of fish wrapped in pandanus leaves and steamed in a coconut curry. The accompanying watermelon and orange salad added a refreshing sweet balance to the dish. The lamb shanks was also cooked in a potato cauliflower coconut curry - the shanks were tender with the meat falling off the bone! The curry was too delicious to waste and I ordered a serve of Naan to dip in the sauce - a divine match made in heaven! The surprise of the night was the Nasi Lalapan - the Lemongrass Chicken was delicately flavoured, accompanied by deep fried anchovies and snake beans. I did however found the beans a bit on the crunchy side. If you enjoy Indian-Malay cuisine, Fish Head is certainly a must try! Be prepared to spend a little - their main dishes can cost between $20 to $30, but is worth every penny! Best approach would be to order several dishes and share them with family or friends!
