Contribuir a la retroalimentaciónLooking for one more place to do some winetasting, my friend and I came to Avila wine and sat out on the patio. The owner was very kind and engaging. He took the time to explain each tasting to us in great detail and answer any questions we had. We both ended up liking two different tastings so we went home with a couple bottles of wine. A nice little spot to do some winetasting, especially so close to the beach.
We thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere. Exceptional collection of wines/
This place is a must stop if you're in Avila and into wine. The owner, Manny, has been in the local wine business for decades now. He's got a ton of knowledge about the wines he stocks but presents them in a very down-to-earth way. The wines in his shop are a connoisseurs dream if you're familiar with the local wines, or you want to try a variety of our regional wines for the first time without visiting multiple wineries ... he carries the very best of Paso and the central coast (with some quality selections from Napa, Sonoma, and Santa Barbara) but........ he has the older vintages! Ever been to a tasting at a winery and loved the wine, bought some bottles, and the sommelier advised you to cellar them for 3-5 years or more? If you're in line with the average, those bottles were drank within the first year (if not the within the first month) ... they tasted as good as they did at the winery, but you felt you were missing out on something great if you'd held them for a while. Manny has done the hard work for you, and at the Avila Wine Co, you can buy the best wines from top local producers that have been perfectly cellared for 5-10 years... all at prices that typically parallel what those same producers are selling their current releases at.
We arrived here around 4pm on a Saturday afternoon. My fiance and I were the only ones there besides the owner. He was super nice and gave us so much information and background on our drinks! I did the 5 tastings of wine, and my finance got a beer. We just sat inside chatting with the owner. It was super chill, and the tastings were so delicious. The selection is unique and personalized. We walked out with a big box of beer and wine for friends and family (and obviously ourselves), but we very much enjoyed the owner's company and the laid-back vibe of the location. The location is quite small, but lots of great wines to choose from. Upon making our purchase, the owner had also printed out some additional information about the wines we got, which I thought was so thoughtful. Definitely looking forward to returning!
We often stop in to purchase our wine here when we are in the area. The prices are better than other wine shops and sometimes even lower than what you would pay at the winery. Manny has a large selection to choose from and once he knows what you like he will help you find other similar wines to taste! This is a one man shop at a vacation destination, so sometimes there's a little wait while he serves other customers, but it's worth the wait.
