We ordered the Singapore rice and chicken in satay sauce with fried rice, both were amazing. We will definitely be returning when we are in Chinatown.
I have never written a review before (except for a very disappointing one years ago), but I felt compelled to share my opinion despite the negative publicity this place has received. This was my first time visiting and I must say, I didn't have any preconceived notions or nostalgia from before the pandemic. The service was a bit abrupt, but efficient, and the staff managed to bring a smile to my face. The restaurant went from empty to full within minutes, but the food delivery was impressively quick. And let's talk about the food - wow! I have dined in many incredible restaurants around the world, but this meal was truly exceptional. The roasted pork was perfectly crispy and tender, and even though they didn't have the dish I originally wanted, the pork was absolutely delicious. The duck and steamed buns were also delightful, not dry at all. The rice had just the right amount of stickiness, making it both satisfying and healthy. I'll definitely be back for more pork next time - even if it means I'll die a happy, full person. I made sure to let the staff know how pleased I was with my meal.
There are few options for a quick, affordable meal in Birmingham's Chinatown, as the area has diminished in size. This little cafe is a traditional and no-frills spot. We visited for lunch and found the interior to be simple and cozy. The staff were friendly and efficient. We sat down, perused the menu, and placed our order with a waitress. We opted for the BBQ meat and rice selection, which arrived promptly. The meal consisted of rice and various meats, which were cut for us from hanging hooks. The portion size was decent, but there was a higher ratio of bone to meat, with limited amounts of duck and chicken.
I traveled here for miles. it was always the highlight of my visit in birmingham. eating was cheap and of great authentic quality, even if the service was almost funny bad. the last time, when my family and me. there before covid, that was nice to eat, but a little cold. I took my family today and we were super excited, as we weren't for two years. we sat there for about minutes before you said we had to order at the counter and pay in advance. I saw other people paying as they left so that I was a little angry. When the food arrived, it looked nice. my wife and I ordered mixed meat and rice. the duck was so cold that she had solidified on her from the juices and we couldn't eat her. I didn't complain like the service, what's the point? I am appalled and must find a new jewel to go for our Chinese food in birmingham
So I went here with my boyfriend, not really know what to expect because of the wide range of reviews but we got excellent food and an authentic experience. If you’re going here expecting table service, servers asking you how your meal is going...etc, go somewhere else. This place is a pick your own seat, go up to order and wait kind of place. We ordered our food, pointed to where we were sitting, and then waited. Can’t have been more than minutes before our food was plonked down by a lovely lady, who quickly ran away after and we didn’t see again. Honestly, even though it’s not exactly got service, the food is absolutely delicious, speedy and not badly priced! I would most definitely eat there again, as the portions were a good size too!
