My wife and I often attend the "Morning Music at the Old Museum" concerts at the beautiful Old Museum Building on Gregory Terrace in Bowen Hills, featuring talented young musicians from the Queensland Youth Symphony. After these concerts, we typically catch a Translink bus to Fortitude Valley, where we enjoy a nice lunch together. Following the concert on April 8th, 2021, we stumbled upon the historic Royal George Hotel on Brunswick Street Mall and decided to have lunch there. Despite the COVID-19 restrictions in Brisbane at the time, we were impressed by the hotel's adherence to safety protocols and enjoyed sitting outside under an ornate awning, watching the passersby along the mall. The staff at the hotel were friendly and we had a great conversation with the manager, who shared the history of the hotel and the Fortitude Valley neighborhood. The Royal George Hotel, known as "The RG", is a three-story Putted-Masonry building with a rich history dating back to the 1850s. We both enjoyed our meals, which were well presented and delicious. The hotel also offers a wide range of alcoholic drinks and has a unique "island-style bar". Overall, our experience at the Royal George Hotel for lunch was positive and we look forward to visiting again in the future.
My recent visit to the Royal George Hotel in Fortitude Valley left much to be desired. Upon entering the establishment, I was immediately taken aback by the dark and outdated atmosphere. The room felt unclean, with sticky floors in need of a thorough cleaning. The advertised drink names on the walls seemed to cater to a less refined clientele, lacking any sense of sophistication. Overall, this experience was a disappointment and I would not recommend this place for a visit.
My wife and I enjoy the specials the RG offers every week, especially the $8 Wednesday steak food. This week I went against tradition and had the Supreme Pizza $18), we just say, Carboard has better taste. if I wanted a Coles or Woolworths... I'd go there, but if your time is poor, go over the street to Domino and get a $5 pizza, you didn't waste your money.
Expensive beers and the stickiest floors ever. Legit lost my shoe twice walking to the bar. The two stars are for the people watching.. jeeebus!
