Shari quality is overall good, although I prefer smaller size, different temp and tightness. Vinegar is in a good combination. Fish was fresh and especially liked Sanma, although i prefer more hikarimono like Iwashi and Kohada. But for this price, this is a solid good omakase choice. I will come back again as an edomae enthusiast.
Was running late and everyone was very accommodating. The chef was very understanding and caught us up quickly with the rest of the omakase group. The sushi was delicious and I definitely recommend getting items a la carte that were not on the initial tasting menu.
This was an absolutely incredible experience. The sushi sends you to heaven and a different magical dimension: a must for sure, we ll be coming back and bringing friends.
Great omakase lovely service, incredible value for money and very accommodating for shellfish allergy also a real hidden gem!
The highlight of Taikun is their light but notable touch of flavor to each piece through the use of soy and sake marinades, yuzu, or even olive oil. The marinades were used on their king salmon, tuna, and ikura, the last of which was my favorite of the three; at no other omakase have I tasted slightly sweetened salmon roe. The sea bream topped with olive oil was unexpected but the flavors mixed surprisingly well. One piece was topped with yuzu and chili, which was my favorite piece of the night. Another piece that was a crowd favorite was flavored with smoked hay. I appreciated that none of the additional flavors were overpowering. It was 13 pieces for $85, after which I admit I was still hungry (though of course you can purchase additional pieces). I did feel like I was missing certain pieces I always look forward to, such as unmarinated king salmon and unmarinated otoro and chutoro. There was however the usual seared tuna piece. The chef and waiter were both kind and knowledgeable. The chef said their usual lineup is always the same, with only the extra pieces changing depending on the season which I thought was a bit backward. The place was small and intimate but nothing extravagant. Overall, I enjoyed the refreshing and new flavors I wouldn't otherwise have at other omakases. I would consider Taikun toward the higher end of mid-tier omakases.
