Sunset Cafe

There's a place on the Camps Bay strip called Sunset Café that appears to be the newest hotspot for tapas, cocktails, and delightful treats. I had the opportunity to visit recently, though sadly it wasn't for the sunsets or cocktails – but I did get a good sense of what they have to offer!

Located along the iconic Camps Bay promenade, Sunset Café is the latest hotspot for sunbathing and people-watching, boasting an extensive cocktail list and a delightful tapas menu. As the little sibling of Mondiall Kitchen and Bar at the V&A Waterfront, Sunset Café captures the essence of Camps Bay culture with its vibrant atmosphere, perfect for those enjoying evening drinks. Though it has a cozy footprint, the café exudes a lively ambiance. It features a terrace ideal for watching the world go by, enjoying street performers, or simply basking in the sun. For larger groups, the indoor lounge area is perfect for festive gatherings, and the beloved marble-topped tables from Mondiall have made a charming return. The cocktail menu is impressive, offering a variety of signature and contemporary drinks crafted exclusively for Sunset Café by Devin Cross of ABV Brands. During our visit, we tried the L’Aperitivo Spritz, a refreshing take on the classic Prosecco aperitif, and The Great Ascent, a gin cocktail blended with kombucha and a zesty kick of fresh ginger. Sunset Café caters not just to drinkers but also offers a well-defined food menu featuring light meals and snacks. We savored the Salt and Pepper Squid, the Sunset Salad with apple, Gorgonzola, and walnuts, the delicate Springbok Carpaccio, and their standout Sunset Burger, which rivals Mondiall’s renowned Wagyu beef version. They also serve light, fresh breakfasts and all-day oysters paired with the bubbly of your choice. The staff are friendly, and the relaxed atmosphere is perfect for unwinding. Nestled just below the Bay Hotel, Sunset Café serves as a stylish central meeting point, combining upscale finishes with a laid-back beach vibe. A must-visit during the summer, we’re excited to see what the cooler months have in store for them.
