Stopped in to Hunker Down while on vacation mid-February 2020. It was our first time up to Sugarloaf, and we'd done all the googling about food and aprés ski spots before heading up. We ended up at Hunker Down mid-afternoon on a Thursday, after a beery lunch at The Bag. It felt like walking in to a pub back home. Great tap list, menu was solid, atmosphere was chill. Dennis and Angela, the managers, were so welcoming and personable. We knew we had to come back before we finished our trip. On Saturday we wrapped up a solid day of skiing by going back to HD. It was busier, but that's expected Sat vs Thurs. There was much more of an Aprés vibe, but Angela was still on top of our drinks. Hunker Down helped take our vacation to the next level. The environment there was so organic and so welcoming that we know it's a must-go next time...and we hadn't originally planned on a next time. It felt like being home.
Love this place! Great salad bowls, ramen is delicious, and extensive menu!! Staff is attentive and friendly. Great vibe.
The service was good enough. The food was another matter. I ordered the Blue Mountain Burger consisting of mushrooms, onions, and gorgonzola cheese. I had asked for the burger to be cooked medium. I was given a rather small, dry, and salty patty. The onions were small, short, dry strips that had apparently been fried and battered. The mushrooms were minced into small pieces, almost like a pate. The gorgonzola was not melted but a few chunks were simply inserted beneath the bun. The manager attempted to make things right by offering something else on the menu but I had a feeling the other items were of similar quality. It was certainly not worth over 16 dollars. I 've had better at McDonalds. I will not go back.
After hearing the founders of Nosh opened a place at Sugarloaf we were very excited! Super surprised at all the negative yelp reviews so we went to check it out for ourselves. I would rate 4 stars but marking as 5 stars because it does seem like this place may have been targeted with negative reviews for some reason. Arrival: 7:30 Saturday night, March, were greeted very nicely and sat right away. Good crowd at that time but space at bar if you wanted drinks and tables seem to move quickly. Waitress: Very friendly, got us drinks quickly and had our order placed in no time. Burgers: similar to Nosh style and cooked perfect (1 medium 1 medium rare and 1 non-meat one). The burgers were juicy and a just the right size also served with fries! Mac and cheese: this was great! It was perfect. Next time would likely order without bacon since the bacon was slightly overwhelming Apps: nachos and Brussels sprouts. Both good and enjoyed both a lot Price: seemed fine but being from nyc I may be immune. Overall we had a great experience and compared to the other 3 dinners we had at sugarloaf this was the best. We will return next year for sure! Pictures included.
