Best Soul Food in Charleston, hands down! You can taste the homemade love in every bite. Parking is a bit tricky..only two-ish stalls in the front. There is plenty of street parking in the area, but be sure to read the signs for permits, etc. We went for lunch and it was packed on a Tuesday. Lots of people ordered ahead and arrived to pick it up. We walked in and were greeted with fast, friendly service. It only took about 15 minutes to get the food, and we sat at the tables outside on a beautiful day. SO. GOOD. This is a can?t-miss if you?re visiting or if you?re local. This food will hit the spot.
The shrimp and crab rice was great, except I kept biting into shells. The pork chop plate is good. I think the pork chop could've been more tender, but the flavor and gravy were good. Collard greens are almost always better made fresh at home, but these were ok. The Mac and cheese was hard, greasy, and not enough cheese. That being said, it was still better than most places you find mac and cheese. The food is not nasty, but its not the best. I would eat here again, I just know what to order next time.
The best soul food hands down! I've tried many in Charleston, but the food keeps me coming back here. The wings and shrimp and crab meat over rice was amazing. I can't wait to visit when the renovations are complete. I visit my grown children here every three months and you're my first stop! Thank you.
Home Soul food, which is so good, you will swear that the grandmother is held by someone in the kitchen hostage. Prices are very reasonable (Entrees $7.75 to $13) and the portions are sufficient. The service was a little slow, but the food was worth waiting. If you're in Charleston, please check them.
