The Groper & His Wife - CITY BEACH

This the first time we have been there. Everything about the groper was impressive. From the comfortable and clean shop environment to the fresh fish selection and the impeccable service. It is really hard to fault, this is the reason why they are one of the best.

This place is one of my favourite joint if I’m cravin for some top quality fish chips. Their batter is one of the best I have ever tried in Perth. The fish/seafood they use are always fresh and juicy. They have never disappointed me.

Came here with a family of 5 to feed on a summer Sunday evening and it was very busy. Nice outdoor access to seating. The service was a bit slow because it was so busy but the food was worth the wait it was delicious. Had the family feast which was 4 squid rings and 4 pieces of battered fish and chips which was more than plenty for the 5 of us. The pricing was a bit on the expensive side but would recommend you try it.

3.3 rating. Liked the food location and price minus the dry snapper. <br/ <br/ Ordered family feast (with ?? upgrade for a snapper) with large side of squid in tomato sauce. In family feast you get a choice of salad or rocky road. We picked rocky road and we got a big chunk that we couldn't finish.<br/ <br/ Snapper was half grilled and half battered. All fish was very dry and you had to buy extra sauces (vinegar is free but everything else including tomato sauce was 2)<br/ <br/ On hindsight I wish I didn't pay upgrade to snapper. (Fam feast was 49.95 which is good value but with upgrade and large tomato squid 13.50 total was about 80 something close to 90 if you add coke and 2 sauces). <br/ <br/ I didn't think it was all expensive if the fish wasn't so dry. Everything else wAs pretty good including the mountain of crispy chips we had. Will return. Just disappointed with the fresh snapper.

Had group of friends and family drop in for a chat many hours later the decision was to get some fish and chips to eat at home. As we had tried most of the local outlets with varied success we ordered from here. Big thumbs up from all concerned the batter was not oily and the fish was good. Chips were even better. Only complaint is that I had to throw away some of the chips as the servings are very generous. Will certainly buy from here in the future!!
