Seto is a small family run Japanese restaurant in Camden Town. It is a rare place in London where you can have a bowl of rustic and homely ramen similar to the ones you will find at diners (worker 's cafe equivalent) in Japan. We had shoyu ramen and vegetarian ramen. All ramen noodles are £9 during lunch hours (including the one with extra pork chashu), but a boiled egg will cost extra £1. We asked for our noodles to be cooked harder. The noodle had nice chew and nostalgic 'old school ' and comforting ramen noodle flavour. The vegetables on top of my veg ramen were fresh and cooked perfectly, finished in thick starchy sauce which gave a unique creamy texture to my soup which I liked. The only problem with my soup was that although it started off hearty and tasty, it begun to taste more and more like a packet soup towards the end, which by the way was not the case with my partner 's non-veg soup. As for the soy based pork chashu ramen, the chashu was tasty and the egg was cooked and marinated perfectly keeping the yolk creamy and golden. The building is old and the décor is far from modern or fancy, but the standard of cleanliness was high throughout the restaurant from the sauce pots on our table to the toilet. Service was on point, attentive and polite. 10% service charge will be added to your bill. £9 for a bowl of ramen in London is good. But as far as the vegetarian ramen is concerned, the overall value is not much better than some other places where you can have a veg ramen with an egg and tofu for £12. All in all, Seto is an unassuming little hidden gem where you can experience the comforting flavour of ramen from down town Tokyo, or if you like, a staff canteen nationwide Japan.
Book ahead for a Friday or Saturday! Don’t expect fancy decor because that’s not what this place is about. There are lots of Japanese people eating here which is always a good sign. You cannot miss the gyozas and spicy tuna rolls! Really good value.
Found this place by way of Top ramen in london list and booked for a Ramen mad Aunts birthday on a Friday night. The food was incredible! We took a chance and ordered a lot (a lot) of starters and shared amongst us nothing disappointed. The menu is quite simple and had both English and Japanese we took a chance and ordered a wide variety without really knowing much. Such a nice difference from the Japanese chains. Our favourites: Fried Octopus Kimuchee Tempura (Various) the salmon was incredible! All of the gyoza freshly made, hot, delicious Our only bugbear was that a few dishes were forgotten about and took ages to come out once reminded. The beef teriyaki was totally worth the wait. Go, go, go! Great food, great vibe, ok prices.
