The food is delicious, fresh and AUTHENTIC because the owner, staff and many of the patrons are, too. The art work and decor can fuel a conversation for more than one meal. The courtyard is scented by luscious vines which soothe the weary traveler. Sip your cafe au lait while you spy on the resident feline in pursuit of a darting lizard or nurse a cold cocktail, sway to cool jazz and enjoy the hot night.
Comfort food at its Best! Service was weird! The waitress would hand the food to my sister and I across the table 4 Top) and place the food for our husbands. She was abrupt with every conversation.
This place is such a big surprise in what's left in downtown Donaldsonville. It's worth the trip. At night, the live music is great and there is always an interesting art on the walls of local artists. The food is notch; we love how the rubber bear comes with potato salad on the side. And you have to get the white chocolate bread pudding! Get it to go and they pack the sauce separately from the dessert and it is just as good when you nuke it at home.
I am a local and enjoy the food that is served at all the local resturants. but the grapevine stands out as being one of the best between baton rouge and new orleans.. the food is always great and very fresh and well seasoned. the servers are a vetern crew and work the tables well. a great place to meet and enjoy all the paintings and live music on weekends and the sunday brunch is one to enjoy and relax.
Really Good. Coworkers and I stopped in for lunch on Tuesday(4/13/10) and I was really impressed with this restaurant. The decor was very inviting with walls covered in local art and by covered I mean everywhere including the restrooms, which had some great photography and primitive paintings. The only thing better than the ambiance was the food and the service and both were excellent. If there is any downside to this restaurant I'd have to say its the price, there was no lunch menu and the selections were around 14.95. The menu had salads, local Louisiana dishes, soups and pastas. A lunch special was offered and that's what I chose and it was a very good choice both for the price(11.95) and the quality. The special was eggplant parmigiana with two boneless chicken breast and green beans. The chicken was nicely seasoned and had a light flavorful sauce, the green beans were also nicely seasoned with a bit bacon but the real star was the eggplant. The eggplant was prepared more like a casserole than traditional style you might get in an Italian restaurant, but the flavors were all there. The eggplant was fried crispy, the sauce was rich and tangy and there was a generous amount of Parmesan cheese. Grapevine was a really nice experience and the service was extremely attentive. I must admit to a bit of food envy though as my coworker had the crawfish bisque and while I didn't get to taste it she said it was good and I believer her. It was a large bowl of rich looking gravy and about 10 stuffed crawfish heads. So I'll make the trek back to Grapevine soon.
