I LOVE Highway 3!! Absolutely great food, and enough variety on the New Orleans style menu for everyone to find something they will want. And, of course, the essentially perfect hurricane cocktail. The owner is iconic as well and greets you as you walk in, a true gentleman, and extremely gracious. But when I say, every night, be forewarned, this establishment is only open from 4 PM to 8 PM Wednesday through Friday. The desserts are also amazing, highlighted by the light and perfectly created beignets. The indoor outdoor dining experience is also excellent, with a wide variety of options. Truly a gray atmosphere. Highly recommended!!
I tried two dishes for the first time, so have nothing really to compare the dishes too. The Gator bites were delicious and is quite a dry white meat-the rub and accompanying sauce were welcome condiments. The catfish sandwich was something to itself. Very much a bottom-feeder with a moderate muddy odor. It was something I am glad I tried, but likely will not try again, but that is more a reflection of my personal taste and less on the restaurant 's food. All in all the service was excellent and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming New Orleans vibe.
Popcorn shrimp was soft, not crispy. Gumbo was bland. Oysters were good. Chocolate bourbon pecan pie was good, but the crust was more like dense bread. Service was excellent. Very noisy for this old boomer. I 'd go back, though, and try some other dishes. Vegetarian options: Vegetarian menu items are marked G . Kid-friendliness: Not too kid friendly, IMHO. Wheelchair accessibility: Fully ADA compliant. Service: Dine in
The food here was top notch! The staff was friendly and responded to my needs quickly. Oysters were notch but left me wanting more. So I ordered the seafood jambalaya and was very pleased. I wish the hours were longer but this place did not disappoint! Food: 4 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4
I’m from New Orleans. So I had to try the only Cajun/Creole restaurant in Durango. Well I was highly disappointed. The first day I came I couldn’t make a togo order bc they only take them from 4pm to 5pm. I got there at 5:02 and they told me Togo orders stop at 5. Ok, I respect it. I was late. I came the next day and got my Togo order. I spent $160 with the tip. I ordered the catfish platter 29.95. The alligator bites 19.95. The coconut shrimp 18.95. 2 of the Cajun salads 19.95. And an order of crawfish etouffee which was 19.95. Ok, here’s my problem. The FOUR coconut shrimp that u get for 19.95 was burnt. The alligator bites were over cooked so they were tough and chewy with no flavor. You can’t over cook gator tail or it won’t be any good. I cook it often so I know. The catfish was horrible. They need to change the frying oil they are using and the catfish was dry. It says catfish fingers but what they did was take a fillet and cut it in half. Catfish is one of the cheaper fish. There’s no reason it should cost $30 for 2 catfish fingers, some over cooked steak and shake fries, and some coleslaw. Now the coleslaw wasn’t horrible but it wasn’t great. Onto the etouffee! Coming from someone that cooks etouffee on a regular basis this was horrible. Absolutely no seasoning. The most plain Jane etouffee I’ve ever had in my life. And they put your etouffee in a cardboard togo box on top of rice so hurry home and eat before it gets the box soggy. One last thing.I guess they make their ranch “in house”. Well it was the most horrible ranch I ever tasted in my life. The salad would have been good if I would have used the hidden valley in the fridge, but I didn’t. Horrible experience. I will not be back. I might actually make some etouffee and gumbo and take it up there and let them try it so they know what it’s supposed to taste like, along with some gator tail. If I could post 0 stars I would.
