Scotch Plains Tavern - Essex

After driving past the restaurant many times, we finally decided to give it a try. To our delight, we were pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere around the fire pit was fantastic. Our waiter, Lenny, was the standout of the evening. He was constantly on the move, attentive, and turned a casual dinner into a memorable experience. The food was also excellent. We are excited to come back again soon.

Really fun place in a beautiful setting. Reception was very friendly, explained seating options and was very accommodating. Wait staff really hustles! Kitchen is a bit slow; don't go if you're in a hurry. Entertainment options are good. Ate indoor on 1st floor this time as we wanted to hear the band who was on the 2nd floor. 2nd floor seemed too loud. Have eaten outdoors in the past and that's really nice. 4 of us split Fig, honey Flatbread and chicken wings as appetizers and all were happy. Main meals were fish tacos, the Poke bowl under apps, Fish and Chips and a Breaded Chicken dish. Everyone was happy with their meals but it did seem there should have been a saucec with the poke bowl which was not brought to the table. Dessert was beignets and a strawberry cheesecake...again everyone was happy. This is a place worth giving your business too.

The atmosphere of this restaurant is pleasant, with decent service. However, the food was terrible. The pretzel was dry and the cheese sauce had hardened. Two people in our group ordered the fish and chips, but it tasted like rancid oil and was inedible. When we complained to our waiter, he simply took our uneaten food and mentioned it to the kitchen before presenting us with the bill. We had read previous negative reviews but decided to give it a try because of the nice patio. It was a big mistake – don't do it.
