Contribuir a la retroalimentaciónI have been there a couple of times with some friends. The food is typical German, with some speciality also specific for Hessen. The food is quite abundant and prices are fair.
We were recommended this restaurant by the hotel concierge. It was already quite late (8:30pm) when we arrived but the staff were quick to set up a table.I ordered the "roast ox on the bone" and it was cooked medium as requested. It is definitely one of the best steaks I have eaten. The local beers were very good and it's worth trying the "Justus Extrakt" liquor which still repeated on me a few days later! The staff were friendly and efficient and very welcoming.
One of my favorite local restaurants, Justus specializes in Hessian delicacies -- hearty, tasty, down home cooking, Hessian style. The menu changes with the seasons, so there is always a nice variety. The lunch specials are a particularly nice bargain with tasty offerings for a very reasonable price -- one can get soup and a main dish or a main dish and a dessert for around 10€ and all three for 12€. There is also a very well stocked bar that features some Hessian "curiosities" as well. The service is excellent and the owner, who is flamboyantly friendly with a great sense of humor, is often present. It gets quite busy evenings, so reservations are recommended.
For the start of the Oktoberfest in München the restaurant offered also some typical dishes beside the normal menu. I eat the Schweinehaxe in Biersoße. It was no problem to change the Knödel (I don't like those balls that much) in Bratkartoffelen. It was delicious after some disappointing experiences in other restaurants during my stay in Gießen. For me the best placce to go. Friendly staff.
Prior to this we had an unpleasant experience at Bar Celona up the road, so entered Justus as it always looked pleasant from the outside. It has a nice warm, old school restaurant-pub style atmosphere and was busy. The staff immediately responded and said a comfortable table would be available shortly. We sat at the bar and since that was comfortable enough, stayed there. The German home cooked food was simply delicious--that was a nice surprise. I had a herring dish and my wife dumplings and we both enjoyed it very much. The portions were a decent size and I tried a Bavarian beer that I've not seen before. Also tried the homemade herbal liquor and that had to be tested a second round;) Very nice, I recommend that.Well done Justus, we will return with friends and family. Keep up with the friendly staff as this is always nice to experience.
