My review unfortunately might be inaccurate today, sorry, but years ago we used to get Lake Superior Lake Trout served with drawn butter. It was so memorable, I keep hoping to repeat that experience. When phoning ahead I have discovered I chose the wrong day. Does anyone else know if it is still even on the menu served this way, and is there a calendared schedule for entree selections? I realize it depends upon the catch of the day, but I wondered also if anyone else shares this memory. I remember the fish and the rolls. Both outstanding. I cannot find lake trout with drawn butter on any North Shore online menus.
I haven’t eaten there yet, instead closed down the place for an evening. The bartender was great, no nonsense, as was the place, and inexpensive too compared to most joints in town One of the oldest buildings in town, it’s beautiful, though it needs some work, but so do I. I’d love to see some more TLC put into it. Regardless, it’s what I’d deem it to be this town’s dive bar and I love it!
Often overlooked, the Birch Terrace Supper Club and bar offers excellent food at reasonable prices. The service is excellent. The beef brisket sandwich as well as the Reuben, and patty melt were all crowd pleasers, as was the Walleye dinner. We all liked the baked potato, which was done just right. The 100+ year old building was warm and welcoming, and had a great atmosphere . If you are a party of two, ask for a spot in the glassed-in porch for a great view of Grand Marais harbor.
