Ordered shrimp tacos and fried pickles as the appetizers. Other members of the party got the pretzel, mac and cheese, and salads. All of the food was wonderful, but the fried pickles really took the lead. Thinly sliced length wise and perfect ratio of pickle and breading. (Chef's kiss motion with hand) Try the strawberry mojito as well. They are delightful!
I ordered a mushroom french dip burger based on our server's recommendation and it was the best burger I have had in a really long time. I think her name was Lauren D. She was an excellent server and took care of us very well! They sat us upstairs because we had a fairly large group. It was a very nice atmosphere, well lit and suited for great conversation throughout our meal. I would definitely go back again if we were staying here longer. If opportunity presents itself, I'll be back again. If you eat upstairs do beware that the handrails are for decoration purposes only, I would not trust them as loose as they are. Overall very happy with my time, service and food at Capital Ale House!
Delicious! We would absolutely come back. The Nashville Hot Catfish sandwich and Shrimp Tacos were amazing and I would recommend either. Tons of beers on tap, a lot of local VA choices. Kids meals come with dessert (vanilla ice cream) and a choice of fries or vegetables. The Bavarian Pretzel appetizer was delicious. The mustard was very sweet, which I enjoyed but isn't for everyone.
The mussels in German beer were absolutely delicious, and the shrimp tacos were among the best I've had in a while, with a delightful kick that adds a playful touch. The beer was served at the perfect temperature and was very enjoyable. Plus, they offer a German IPA—how fun is that? I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a relaxed atmosphere, plenty of beer on tap, and great food accompanied by an attentive staff. I definitely plan to return—I want one of those growlers!
Capital Ale House is a fantastic pub that rightly earns its 4 out of 5 rating. The food is consistently good, with the Southern Mac and Cheese and the Chicken Sandwich being crowd favorites every time you visit. It's definitely a bar food kind of spot, so I wouldn't suggest ordering seafood or anything fancy. The beer selection is exceptional, featuring an impressive array of local and craft beers on tap, all of which are quite unique. The service is pretty standard—nothing extraordinary, but certainly not bad. Overall, it’s a solid 4 out of 5 and a great choice for a sports bar meal.
