Verrills Fish Shop - Hartlepool

Great fish and chips and nice to have Cod for a change as we normally get Haddock in West Yorkshire.

Only second visit to this fish and chip shop definitely won't be back! After waiting in long queue on Friday afternoon expected something special, all we got was a pile of not well cooked greasy chips and a fish also greasy with soggy batter. Disgusting and big disappointment!

Arrived at usual time to be told had stopped frying early. Very inconvenient and quite blunt about it. Tried again a few nights later and unusually greasy, hopefully a one off.

Well im sorry to write such a negative review we had been recommended Verrils fish and chips by the cottage owner as being the best. I have never had such horrible fish and chips £9.50 for fish and chips a bit expensive but we were on holiday. It was an oil slick the fish was marooned on top of greasy oily soggy chips a massive portion i was asked if i wanted scrumps which we had they were nice. But even our dogs wouldn't eat them either. Shame because i have been on a strict diet and was so looking forward to a treat.

Not like it used to be we know as we have been coming for the last twenty years. Batter is different.
