Contribuir a la retroalimentaciónMy wife had just arrived in Sydney for the first time and we went shopping at Paddy's Market. I wanted her to try the Laksa at Happy Chef. The portions were generous and we were not disappointed.
I'm not sure what has happened to this restaurant, as I used to frequent their former locations in Newtown and Wynyard with no complaints. However, my recent experience was disappointing. I was their first customer of the day and encountered rude staff, possibly the manager, during a basic interaction. The laksa I ordered lacked flavor and I had to add extra chilis to make it enjoyable. Overall, I believe there are better dining options in Sydney.
I have been a regular at this restaurant for years and overall, it has been consistently excellent. There was one time when the squid was a bit tough, but that can happen anywhere. Yesterday, I brought my partner here for the first time and their first reaction was wondering why I hadn't brought them sooner for the amazing laksa. The laksa was truly delicious, with 8 large king prawns that were perfectly cooked, all for around A$16. I ordered the mixed seafood and fresh rice noodle soup, both of which were perfect. This restaurant is far superior to other Asian soup shops in Sydney (and I have tried most of them!), and is a favorite of Mr. Wong Koch Dan Hong.
We thought about Won Ton soup for dinner after a day of travel and found this hidden jewel in a food dish at the top of Sussex Place. Now I'm not sure what other expectations are for Won Ton, but the simple version of Happy Chef came...relatively fast with 8 Won Tone Coins, many cut Bok Choy and green onion, piping hot with a delicious broth. Just what we were looking for and we shared it with rice noodles. Appropriate and there were neighboring restaurants in this food dish that looked promising. We'll probably be back.
Popped in for an early lunch. Plenty of seats at 1100. Had the seafood wonton combination soup with thin rice noodles. Such a big serve! Lovely clean taste. Squid a bit chewy but still would rate it an excellent value meal.
