You can have an array of different accompaniments served by the friendly and helpful staff. The outside seating area is lovely in the summer and the conservatory area is prefect in the cold or wet. I have been several times and left feeling full and happy.
This is my second visit recently so was happy to be back. Amazing Tickler cheese on toast with Pancetta and excellent coffee. It's not the cheapest of places but the food and service are very good.
Great food and service. Cheese on toast with optional fillings great! And very tasty…… Have been there twice recently and once 5 years ago. A good place to visit and obviously very popular judging by the numbers coming and going……
On recommendation from some friends, I visited here for a quick lunch to sample some of their Sussex Charmer on toast. I had a sample of both the onion marmalade and charmer pickle and both were very pleasant. However, I felt that it was quite expensive for what it was. The milkshake was also quite expensive at £4.30 and was remarkably similar to Nesquik. The view from the cafe could not be described as charming. However, beautiful hanging baskets do mask the car park and the array of pot holes. That said, it was looking very popular with cyclists and walkers who perhaps saw something I didn’t!
This seems to be the house outlet and cafe for Sussex Charmer cheese. Easy to find; just briefly head northwards off the A281 at Rudgwick. Situated on the site of a former brickworks, there's plenty of parking (with many potholes therein). A surprisingly large floorplan includes an attractive elevated terrace which must be very pleasant in warm weather. It being January, like most others, we sought shelter in the rather spartan, and not much warmer, indoor seating area. The menu is basic cafe fare, but understandably predicated on the core product although there are various other options provided by local suppliers. Ordering is done via friendly girls at the till situated at one end of the open kitchen, and what a spotless kitchen it looked too. Mrs EPR endorsed the signature choice of Sussex Charmer on toast. I was equally impressed by my Sussex Bacon roll four slices of top quality back bacon in a soft and squishy roll. However, as any fule no, a bacon roll needs the ketchup of choice and there was none. So I requested some, it was duly acknowledged and then subsequently ignored. So, rather tediously, I had to go and find some for myself but it was well worth it. There is a small amount of retail activity on site, but it is rather minimal and they certainly don't push their own or any other local product as much as might be expected. This location is also handy for the adjacent Firebird brewery which is definitely worth a visit.
