I have had fancy business dinners at other downtown high-end steakhouses, but had never tried Ruth 's Chris and really wanted to experience their sizzling steaks. Devour Downtown was a good opportunity to do it at a reasonable price since this would be coming out of my pocket. When we first walked in, I was impressed. When we walked out, I was underwhelmed. If Ruth 's Chris uses the Devour Downtown week as a time to try and attract new business, they do a terrible job at it. The atmosphere was pleasant upon walking in, as was the hostess. It went downhill after that. We waited at least 5-10 mins for our waiter to arrive to take our drink orders (the restaurant was only 1/3 full at 7:30PM on a Sunday). The drink menu was then left taking up elbow room until our entrée plates were cleared. Everything was very rushed: the salad, the steaks (arriving before finishing the salad), and then the dessert. The salad was OK, the steaks (10oz ribeye) were great, just what I was hoping for, and the dessert was also quite tasty. However, the service was sub-par to say the least. The waiter was inattentive, and when he was speaking to us or asking us a question, it was as he was walking by our table heading back to the kitchen (he kept talking as he was walking by). When the steaks arrived, we found after the first bite that they mixed up the plates (medium and medium-well), so we had the fun of trying to pick up and move 500 degree plates. The waiter never came to ask us how our food was. When my girlfriend asked to take most of her remaining dessert home, they gave us a Styrofoam carton without the fancy take-home bag that they give everyone else. The waiter swooped in to pick up the check as soon as I had signed the receipt. This is all totally inexcusable for a place that bills itself as high-end. I wondered if our experience had something to do with the fact that we were there taking advantage of the special, but I tend to think not completely, because it started before we ordered with the very slow drink service. We even ordered alcoholic drinks (not to pad the bill, we always do when we dine out). We certainly weren’t dressed like bums, I would say business casual. Finally, why rush us when the restaurant was only 1/3 full? For the money, what we got in terms of food was good, but for a place that advertises itself as high-end, I would label the service as terrible. Thanks to the service (all-encompassing, not just our waiter), it was a sub-par experience overall. In reading other reviews online from around the country, it appears that hit-or-miss service is not unheard of at Ruth’s Chris, and sometimes the food is hit-or-miss (mostly side-dishes). For a nice business dinner, I wouldn’t take the chance of coming here given the probability of having a poor experience is too high.
Very pricey, but very good. I had a filet mignon and it was perfect. The only thing that I didn't like was the bleu cheese salad. I love bleu cheese, but this was way overbearing. I also don't like the fact that you have to order everything ala carte, however, it is worth it for a special occasion.
I won't ever turn a steak down So I was excited to visit Ruth's Chris after being recently renovated.
The steaks here are consistently good, I've had the NY Strip and the Ribeye, never disappointing! The calamari is freaking awesome, battered and fried like
I stopped by the First Friday drive-by LUNCH because the restaurant is normally closed for lunch.
