Don Juan's Mexican - Jacksonville

My boyfriend and I love Mexican food and thought we’d give this restaurant a try since it had so many positive reviews. However, we left very disappointed and quite frankly disgusted. The service was decent, but the food was absolutely horrible. I ordered the chicken quesadilla, which came with mostly dark meat (which was not advertised on the menu). It annoyed me a little because I don’t like the taste of dark meat, but I continued eating it anyways because I didn’t want to complain. Well…then, it got worse. I bit into a HUGE piece of CHICKEN FAT. The fact that there would be pieces of chicken fat in any food item is disgusting. Chicken is meant to be cleaned, deboned, and all fat cut off. But it was made very clear that they prioritize making food as cheaply as possible and then up-selling it to unassuming customers. I told the waitress and she just took my full plate away…didn’t even offer to take it off the bill. I had only eaten a few bites of the entire dish. I’m pretty non-confrontational, so I didn’t push it. But in hindsight, I wish I had called a manager over because the quality of food was unacceptable.

During the time I worked nearby, I used to have lunch at Don Juan's every week. The food is consistently fresh, and the restaurant is always well-kept. The owners and staff are incredibly welcoming. I went there with friends for lunch yesterday and was reminded of how much I missed the feeling of stepping into a restaurant where you're treated like family and greeted with open arms. I truly love everything about this place. I also want to give a special shout-out to the staff for the support they showed to the group of military personnel who were dining there yesterday. It was truly heartwarming!

The spicy jalapeño margarita is fantastic! If you enjoy jalapeños with your meals, the jalapeños Toreados are excellent. The food is delicious, comes out quickly, and is of high quality.

Just had a very good experience at Don Juan’s. The tacos were the best I’ve ever had (we got chicken and beef, both were equally delicious). Our server was Pablo and he was excellent. Also met the owner who was very friendly! Not pictured is other child ordered a cheeseburger and it and the French fries were delicious. We will definitely be coming back!!!

I had veggie fajitas and they were delicious. My server helped me take the standard chicken fajitas menu item and modify it to make it a vegan meal. I only wish the charge reflected the veggie fajitas vs chicken fajitas. It is a small thing, but would be appreciated. The chips and salsa were OK. The salsa seemed a little bland for me and the chips didn't appear to be freshly homemade especially since I was one of the first tables of the day. The service staff was very friendly and the facilities were very clean. I would eat there again and recommend it to others.
