Yamato Japanese - Jacksonville

I ordered takeout for both of us this evening and picked it up around 6:30 PM. After we opened the sushi, we quickly realized it tasted like the rice and raw fish were spoiled and became completely inedible. I called the restaurant to inform them, but when the girl who answered the phone relayed our concerns to the owner (who is her father), he started yelling at her. I sat on hold for a few minutes, listening to his tirade, before I suggested bringing the food back for a refund. When I returned to the restaurant, I was told that because we had taken a few bites (one of which I immediately spat out into the tray because it was so disgusting), we were only eligible for a partial refund. The owner spent most of my time there yelling and gesturing wildly because I had the audacity to return the food. Since I got home, I've been feeling nauseous due to the three bites of sushi I ate. After checking reviews later, I found that this seems to be a common issue (old food being served) along with pictures of a filthy dining area and even a rat behind a booth. I truly don't understand how this restaurant is still in operation.

My low rating is solely based on my experience with delivery. I have never dined in the restaurant and only sampled the food once. I was craving Asian cuisine and decided to try Yamato. I ordered a side of Miso Soup and Vegetable Yakisoba, while my fiancé had Chicken Yakisoba. The portions were generous, comparable to what you'd expect anywhere else. Unfortunately, the flavors were incredibly disappointing. Both dishes lacked any real taste and seemed like bland, fried noodles. We even tried to enhance the flavor with Bragg's Liquid Soy Aminos, but it didn't help much. Although we finished what we ordered, we won't be returning due to the inconsistency in flavor.

This family-owned restaurant is run by very friendly people. You should definitely try the ginger dressing on your salad—it's incredibly fresh! The hibachi beef and rice is consistently excellent. I've been dining here for years!

Staffs were nice but sushi rolls were tasteless. Not that they tasted bad but just doesn’t taste anything like seafood. All I tasted was cucumber and cream cheese. We went for dinner but the lights were barely on and it was kind of scary. Maybe this place has different atmosphere during the day ?

One of our favorite places. Small family run establishment with great food.
