Contribuir a la retroalimentaciónI had a wonderful experience at this charming cafe with excellent food and service. I visited during lunchtime and enjoyed a delicious coffee along with poutine fries smothered in Gorgonzola cheese and vegetarian mushroom gravy. For my main course, I had the salmon filet with coconut-flavored rice pilaf, which was delicious. I also sampled my friend's lamb burger, which was perfectly seasoned and incredibly tasty. Overall, a fantastic place to dine while in Ketchikan! They also have plenty of vegetarian options on the menu.
This pleasant café has a long and interesting history. I enjoyed a delicious coffee latte and cake during my visit, and the view of the cruise ships docked outside through the large windows was lovely. The café was originally founded by a Japanese American couple in 1903 in downtown, but due to segregation in the 1920s, they, along with Chinese and other minorities, were forced to relocate to the south part of town known as Indian town, where the café is still located today. During World War II, the couple was once again forced to move, this time to an internment camp, but thanks to the kindness of their neighbors, their shop and hotel were looked after and returned to them after the war.
Title: Stellar Flavors and Memorable Delights at New York CafeRating: Review:My recent dining experience at New York Cafe left me thoroughly satisfied and impressed. This trendy establishment not only delivers mouthwatering burgers and delectable fries but also surprises its patrons with unique flavors that elevate their culinary offerings.Let's begin with the original burgers. The taste was outstanding, and the quality of the ingredients used was evident in every bite. The patties were juicy, perfectly cooked, and had a tantalizing blend of flavors. Accompanied by a soft, toasted bun, the combination was a true delight for the taste buds. The balance of traditional elements and a touch of innovation made these burgers truly stand out.Speaking of fries, they were okay. Crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Not seasoned. One noteworthy item on the menu was the lamb burger, skillfully enhanced by the addition of fig jam. This surprising combination took the dining experience to another level. The succulent lamb patty paired with the sweet and tangy flavor of the fig jam created a harmonious fusion that was simply sublime. It's a marriage of flavors that will leave a lasting impression. However, it was the seared scallops that truly stole the spotlight. Expertly cooked to perfection, these delicate morsels of seafood embodied the epitome of elegance and refinement. With a beautiful sear on the outside and a tender, buttery texture inside, every bite was a heavenly symphony of flavors. The seared scallops were undeniably the showstopper of the evening. The ambiance of New York Cafe further enriched my dining experience. The dark wood rustic decor contributed to a haunting atmosphere, making it an ideal spot for friends gathering or a casual dinner date. The only reason I'm not giving it a full five-star rating is because of the slightly higher prices and the occasional waiting time during peak hours. However, the quality of the food and the impeccable taste more than compensate for these minor inconveniences. In conclusion, New York Cafe is a culinary gem that every food enthusiast should visit. The original burgers, delicious fries, and standout dishes like the lamb burger with fig jam and the seared scallops ensure a memorable and satisfying dining experience. Make sure to visit this establishment, and prepare to be impressed by their stellar flavors and impeccable service.
I always come here. Love it. But now it is ruined. Due to a years old beef with a local one of party was refused service by the kitchen. This is so not professional that I will never spend another penny at this business as long as that cook works there. Manager was sent to our table and our pregnant friend refused service but we were welcome to order and eat. So unprofessional!!!
Unfortunately th service was really disappointing. The server forgot our poutine order, then when we got the bill (from a different server), we specifically asked if the poutine was on there and they said no. We paid and got a text of our receipt and the poutine was indeed on the bill for $14. The salmon fish and chips were great. No kids menu. The restaurant is seat yourself so if there's no tables, you're waiting until someone moves. At first I think it was great but ultimately left disappointed.Maybe we just had bad luck. They placed the table specials on our table after we ordered so we tried to order more but it fell through. It seemed like maybe they were trying to turn the tables over too fast? It would be better honestly if they had a hostess on port days? At first I thought it was awesome because they were trying to seat is as fast as possible but then we struggled to get the servers attention.Honestly I'm really disappointed with the dishonesty. We specifically asked what was on the bill, they read the bill to us, then we mentioned the poutine was never brought, we were told that we were not charged. Then to get a bill that not only included it but we paid a gratuity for it was disheartening.Kid-friendliness: They had a high chairs. no changing table in the women's bathroom. No kids menu. They did have milk.
