As a gluten-free diner, I had limited options and ended up with a dish of rice, dried meat, and pickled vegetables on the side. Despite the lack of choices, when mixed together, the dish was surprisingly tasty. Unfortunately, my friend's meal, which I cannot recall the name of, looked unappetizing and she did not enjoy it. Her daughter also did not find her meal to be impressive. I felt guilty looking at their plates and regretted inviting them. However, we did appreciate the unique experience of sitting on the floor with our legs dangling into the "pit," and there was a pleasant atmosphere overall.
I found this place by accident while taking a different route home. While it looks nothing special from the outside, it definitely has a lot to offer and is a very good value for money. Aside from traditional tables you can also seat Japanese style at the low tables which adds to the climate. The menu is very rich, prices are very low and portions generous. You can choose from a selection of starters, sushi and variety of hot dishes. My personal favourite were takoyaki and it’s probably the only place you can find them in this area. I also went for chicken kara-age, crispy squid, prawn rolls and mushrooms on skewers. All freshly made and served hot to the table. Very nice service as well and
The food at this restaurant is excellent and the ambiance is pleasant. I visited with friends last Tuesday and we had a wonderful experience. There were many options to choose from, all freshly prepared. They also offer a selection of Asian beers.
Sapporo never disappoints. The food was delicious, including the wine. We felt safe with the spaced out tables and regular sanitization, and the service was excellent. I have been to this restaurant a few times over the years and wanted to show my support after the UK lockdown. The service was impeccable: we were given space when needed and attended to when ready to order more. We enjoyed starters like pork gyoza, avocado rolls, and vegetable tempura before moving on to mains like chicken ramen and duck teriyaki bento box, accompanied by a full-bodied house red wine. The veggie tempura, although missing sweet potato and peppers, was still tasty with battered mushrooms and cauliflower. The bento box was a great value, with a bowl of miso soup and pickles included. My friend and sister loved their dishes, and I even ordered takeout for my sister. Support this local restaurant if you can, as the service and food quality were top-notch. I left with a full belly and a grateful heart.
I always have to eat here at least one to three times a month. Best Asian restaurant in Lewisham/Catford. I love the ambience. They are so good at what they are doing and the food they make. The bento boxes are worth it as well as the starters. The staff are so polite and welcoming. I was gonna give a 5* in total but I had to go with 4* because I badly need them to have a delivery but still not. I have been going to this restaurant for years and I honestly feel like it's time to step up the game. It is quite a trek to travel from Lewi to Catford especially when I'm so tired from work so I highly suggest a delivery. Otherwise I couldn't ask for any better, just a slight additional recommendation
