Esprit - L'Isle-Jourdain

We had lunch here with friends on a busy day when there were lots of visitors for a vide grenier. The restaurant was full a good sign) and the Euro menu was the best we have had in this town a cold...carrot compote for starter, pork kebabs with apricots and potatoes Boulanger, followed by cheese and a delicious raspberry mousse. Great service- well worth a stop.

The welcome was low-key but genuine, the table overlooking a square/car-park was simply laid out, and the suggested menu was more tempting than the plat du jour, though plenty of local workers were enjoying that. We chose the Salade Perigourdine, which arrived after a little...time together with fresh tasty bread and a carafe of red, which turned out to be very pleasant. It was worth the wait for the main dish, for the presentation was attractive without pretention, with quite generous proportions of contrasting duck products temptingly placed on the fresh salad. It was a quite delicious mix of foie gras maison, gesiers confits maison, and magrets fumes maison. The whole meal, for two of us, with good coffee as a finale, cost euros. Very good cuisine, good service, pretty good value.

Small bar serving great coffee. Lovely lady behind the bar is very friendly and even though I think this is a bar mainly for locals, we were made so welcome. This is our visit in months and we always feel at ease there....There is a restaurant attached and we have promised ourselves that we will visit there too. We have seen the chef walking around and he also greeted us.

Arrived at the end of lunchtime but the chef was still in the kitchen so we were okay! Lovely lunch served in a bright, airy dining room by very friendly, helpful staff. Excellent value formule.
