I chose it after I saw the Desserts Fait maison. And because they fit me... in. We were treated regularly as fit. Service really, really excellent. Food also excellent. Absolutely a great place to pamper yourself without spending a fortune. Great wine list, too.
Just 25 minutes from the Ouistreham Ferry Terminal and 10 minutes from the Pegasus Bridge, you will find a charming seaside town. 8 of us had a nice meal here, no complaints from anyone. The food was excellent as the service. We liked Merville-Franceville-Plage as... it was a quieter oasis during the day anniversary, a beautiful oasis from the masses.
My son and I had the Hausburger one of the best I ever had. He followed him with a crepe while I had the local cheese. The staff were very friendly, very busy with locals who tell you a lot!!
To start with I am confused by the previous reviews. We chose this by chance, not having read any trip advisor reviews at this point. We turned up following a 3 hour drive from Paris and visited the restaurant @9pm on a Friday night. This...was the busiest of the eateries in the area usually a good sign), we were found a table and brought drinks straight away. There is no menu to hand out, it is all listed outside or chalked on a blackboard in side. We order steak and chips which was cooked medium and was melt in the mouth good. The chips were large and crisp and it was all nicely served on a wooden platter with a small salad and a pot of gravy/sauce. The house wine was nice and service was friendly and leisurely, but we were not in a rush to that was good. The staff tried their best to speak some English to us, our French is not great but we managed between us all to make ourselves understood. Others in the restaurant mainly French, we were the only Brits) were predominantly eating fish dishes. These looked substantial and colourful. It was clearly a popular local place. I do wonder if some of the other reviews are for a completely different place as the photo for this restaurant is for the hotel Le Vauban which is located a 10 minute walk away we know as we stayed there). L'Escapade is on the sea front in a fantastic position. I wouldn't hesitate to go back and would try the seafood next time. If I have any criticism it would be that on a cold spring evening that the extension area that we sat in was a little cool and that the desserts were not quite up to the same excellent standard of the main courses. But I'm sure that could be easily rectified.
Im not a great seafood lover,so we ate here as it had a couple of meat choices. The tables for 2 were rather small, and when we we tried to go to a 4 seater table,we were told to sit at a 2 seater by a...very bullish lady! The menu was in french and i have a basic understanding, but when i asked about a couple of the fish dishes for my wife, she didnt want to explain, and fetched another waitress to take the order. The food was not very nice, and the whole attitude of the staff confirmed a TV article i had seen about the rudeness of French restaurants and cafes ,especially towards foreigners, something that even the french pressident has asked to be addressed! Not a place i would visit again to eat!
