Penang Garden is located on the McCarthy Ranch and anchored in the middle of a huge strip of shopping mall by a 99 ranch. Although it is surrounded by so many other restaurants, it stands out for its unique and tasteful food. There was a fairly long waiting time to get a table, and the service was actually quite poor – they forgot our drinks and were really slow to take our order first. Nevertheless, I would return to the Penang Garden in the future.
I've eaten here for a long time and went back recently after I've been thinking about a travel channel show about Singapore and Hainanese Huhn. We came right when she opened for dinner, so it was nice – no crowds, the attention of the server was all on us. The food was also served quickly; then we were the only ones in the restaurant back then. We ordered the Roti Canai. It was nice toasty and warm. The diving sauce has a nice spice. The pad thai was tasteful, but a little sweet; it needs some spices. We also had the coffee substitute ribs that tasted a little like Beijing spare ribs. The yield is quite good; it has the right amount of spiciness and the beef was really tender. That's my first time I tried the Rendang-Rind and I wasn't disappointed. For some reason, I expected the Hainanese chicken to taste better, but it didn't. I remember telling it before and really appreciate it, but this time is something different. Perhaps what they usually gave us the dark meat part of the chicken with a lot of skin and bones instead of meat or there is something lacking with the spices it goes with.
Love everything about this place. Food is fantastic the staff are always on top of good service.
Food: very authentic traditional Chinese cuisines. Very suitable for big party, so you can enjoy more dishes at a time, esp other spicy fish we saw at the other table lol Service: not really responsive. The door was opened all the time, so at night time if there happen to be some heavy smokers, seats that are closer to the front will be smothered. Ambiance: big party recommended.
This is delicious! I really like eating rattan pepper fish. It would be better if the potato shreds were more sour and spicy. The pot-roasted pork is also delicious, but I don’t eat fried food very much. If I eat one piece, it will be almost the same. Overall, the service was great, the food was great, a bit pricey but fresh, will definitely go back.
