First visit to this restaurant, I had been there in the old Heritage days its a great old building. Décor is great throughout the place from the patio to both restaurant spaces. Fine dining down, casual up. Service is top notch.Now for the confusing part; the food. From the 70's escargot laden with garlic butter and moz cheese with tacos and burgers to a very expensive lobster ravioli in which I couldn't discern the lobster in it. It was a kind of forcemeat inside and a béchamel sauce on top. It is like they can't decide on the direction of the menu so they are test driving higher end burgers to steak and seafood dishes. I think once they decide their direction, the crowd will be loyal. Great people, great venue just need the great menu to go with it.
Ze Kitchen is located in a beautiful old house in the historical village of Cumberland. The inside of the restaurant is just as lovely, with proper white linen tablecloths and servers dressed for the part. A few private rooms are available if one chooses to host a special event and the staff is extremely pleasant and helpful. This is where the enchantment ends. Before going to Ze Kitchen, we had tried to see the menus on their website but they were not available. A few photos showed tempting meals and suggestions were made about Mediterranean cuisine with a twist. We were a group of 7 and all, without exception were surprised by the menu. Essentially, as a friend put it, Ze Kitchen is a swanky burger joint. Burgers were on the menu, tacos, a pasta dish, but really nothing to write home about. It was the type of food one could expect from a restaurant in a shopping plaza. The fact that the setting is so alluring makes it a greater disappointment. We had fun, drank lots of wine and took our food with a grain of salt!
Super belle soirée entre amies de filles. Nous étions un groupe d'une dizaine de filles et nous avons pu avoir une belle salle privée au 3e étage. L'ambiance était parfaite, bonne musique, beau décor. Bémol: la nourriture. J'ai commandé le dip artichauts/épinards, c'était correct, sans plus, rien d'extraordinaire. Ensuite, j'avais commandé les pâtes carbonara au poulet grillé... Quand j'ai entamé mon plat, je réalise qu'il n'y a aucun poulet... J'avise le serveur qui reprends mon assiette et reviens 5 min. plus tard avec le poulet grillé dessus. Poulet un peu sec, pâtes ordinaires. Plusieurs de mes amies ont pris le steak et crevettes et n'ont pas aimé le steak, dont la cuisson était trop avancée et viande peu tendre. Pour le prix assez élevé, on s'attend à avoir de la qualité et la cuisson désirée. Par ailleurs, je vais donner une autre chance à ce resto puisque j'ai aimé l'emplacement, le style. Je vais plutôt commander des plats plus "ordinaires" et moins coûteux la prochaine fois.
My wife and I were excited to go and try the new restaurant as we were looking forward to lobster and the lamb dishes posted on their Web site only to find out they serve burgers and club sandwich a pasta dish with chicken that was no good. It was worth a try but not returning, food you can get anywhere at other bars at a better price.
