"We had been on The Island for over a week and had not had a full lobster dinner. So off to Cardigan we went as it was near to where we were staying. Well we were greated by a man with a ripped and stained teeshirt. I thought he was a kitchen hand we later found out he was the owner! The restaurant is in huge need of modernization very old and tired. The price point was okay with choices of a or course dinner. The chowder was so so, the salad wad way too cold with bland dressings. The local muscles were VERY GOOD, and so was the lobster. The lady on the next table sent back as they were not cooked properly. Desert was a choice of a brownie or pound cake both of which were very mundane. Cocktails were not good definitely not city standard. The wait staff were very friendly and apologized several times for the wait. They said they were unexpectedly busy! WHAT IT'S AUGUST!!!! Anyway skip this one and go to New Glasgow as we should hAve done."

"We so much wanted to love this place. It's exactly the kind of enterprise you want to see succeed. Unfortunately, after two visits, we felt our meals were poor enough that we decided to mention it on Tripadvisor, as a head's-up to the sweet young couple who own Trailside. First, the good: Fun, warm, welcoming venue for some amazing musicians (if you like modern folk or folk-rock, of the kind that British DJ calls "American roots", you'll like the lineup here). For a cozy night of music and beer, this is one of the best stops in the Maritimes. HOWEVER. They also bill themselves as a café/restaurant, and in that regard, the quality of the food is totally out of line with the price of the food. Over the course of one dunner and one lunch, we had pasta, quiche, burgers, mussels, and salads. None of it it was very good, but our lunch added up to one of the most-expensive meals we've had in PEI. The salad was overdressed and droopy, looking like it was left over from the night before. Ditto the quiche, which was bland and tasted like leftovers, with a mushy crust. The burgers were not terrible, but they were served with garden-variety ridged potato chips from a bag . . . which isn't a big deal elsewhere, but in PEI where you get fresh-cut PEI fries or PEI potato chips at your basic burger joint, supermarket-bagged chips are just not cutting the mustard. The mussels were supposedly cooked with curry and coconut milk, but those flavors we were almost totally unable to discern; almost no curry or coconut (also, served with an oddly-too-small shell bowl, so it was hard to discard the shells . . . no bread for dipping, not even a spoon for the broth. Anyway, we wish the owners well, as this is a great addition to the area. We hope that as time passes, they improve on the food front."

"Got to try the burger and it was absolutely delicious. The fries are a must have too!"
