A talented gentleman was providing live entertainment, and he was absolutely incredible—every song he played was from my favorite playlist! My steak was cooked just right, and our server was very skilled at her job. I highly recommend checking this place out if you're in the area!
We enjoyed a Father's Day brunch in the dining cars, and it was hands down the best buffet we've ever experienced—and we've been to plenty! The service was excellent, the views were stunning, and the food was delicious. There was even a talented gentleman playing the guitar and singing, and he was fantastic! After brunch, we took a train ride, which was a delightful experience. They really have a little slice of heaven there!
The staff were friendly, but our waitress often vanished and wasn't around when we needed her. I was eager to try several of their signature drinks, but I couldn’t get any because she was nowhere to be found! She did recommend the shrimp and grits, which were almost as delicious as what you'd find in New Orleans. Unfortunately, the grits tasted bland and almost like water. My wife ordered the chicken marsala, which looked impressive, but sadly, it lacked flavor as well. Just a bit of salt and pepper would have made a difference! It was so disappointing that I had to ask for a spoon from the bar to eat my grits. We were staying at the train hotel, which was a cool experience, but we ultimately decided not to dine at the train car again, despite our initial plans. It was a big letdown.
We booked this for a special weekend for my hubby's birthday. We both love trains. It's about 5h drive from us and it was easy to get there. The caboose was well maintained, super clean and the bed was really comfy. Food was amazing at the restaurant...we ended up eating there both nights. The staff were professional and pleasant. We wanted for nothing during our stay! We enjoyed the town, the grounds and napped a lot. Can't wait to go again!
One of my favorite and unique stops near Shasta. I’ve stayed in a caboose (fun). I’ve stayed in the campground (peaceful). I walked the grounds (beautiful view of castle crag). I’ve stopped for a meal and to walk the dog. Always good. Always fun. Great burgers for lunch.
