This was a mediocre place and experience. I really wanted it to blow me out of the water, but the food didn't. I give 3.5 stars. Our waiter was friendly and helpful, as was the hostess who quickly sat us in a clean booth. This place seemed new, from the fresh paint to the decor and new seating selections. The pricing is fair: about 9$ for an entree and 2 sides. Good: my sweet potatoes were not hot, they didn't have sautéed green beans for my dad, but they had country green beans in case you're wondering about the difference: country green beans come with ham and sautéed ones don't. Yes, I agree it's confusing that they didn't have sautéed, but they had country style green beans. When they were brought to my dad, it looked as if they were maybe canned green beans and not fresh, but I'm not certain. My sautéed veggies were super soggy. I tried to like them, but they weren't healthy with all the soggy oil or water, nor were they delicious and fresh. My chicken tenders were cooked well, and they did give a hefty portion! The ranch sauce was creamy and homemade.
No masks by staff. We'll just not eat here any more for now. What a shame. This is so easy to fix.
Great tavern in beautiful downtown Newton that is run by the sweetest people who really care about their establishment. It's actually much larger inside than it appears from the street, too. Plenty of room for a small group. On weekends there is a small stage where bands play in the bar area. Our food, unfortunately was not the greatest. Why 4 stars then? Because service was excellent and the owner was working her buns off to make us happy. And parts of my meal were really great! We began with spinach artichoke dip. It was very flavorless, unfortunately. We ate a few bites and left the rest. The chips were warm, so they were good. I got the fish tacos for dinner and I think a lot of people will enjoy them. The sauce on them was ok, but I did ask for salsa for some heat. The fish itself was really good and flavorful. Next time I'll just get fish and chips and skip the tortilla and fixins. I do intend to give this restaurant another shot to see if this was an off night for food. It's a great space, and the owner's attitudes and helpfulness go a long way to making me happy!
Blue Moon Tavern was a great experience. It is much larger inside than it looks from the outside. The prices were pretty cheap and anytime I can get a margarita for 6 buck and they use 1800 is a win. They have a variety of choices from southern classics to fish tacos. We started out with fried green tomatoes and fried mozzarella sticks. Both were phenomenal, not to much breading and the dipping sauce were great too. My father-in-law ordered a burger and it had to be a half pound patty. He got a side of steak fries and they were perfectly crispy. My wife and I both got the fish tacos. We could have split them, because they were loaded with fried white fish and a cilantro and lime slaw. Rylie was very attentive and friendly. I highly recommend this little hole in the wall!!!
