We went for lunch at Bury Lane cafe as we have used their cafe for a number of years. We went to lunch yesterday 26/11/2023, it was busy. We sat down, after about 10 mins, the waitress took our order, they didn't have my first choice, so I order something different. We waited 20 minutes for our drinks, which I had to ask for again. I went to the counter to check how much longer it would take for our meal to arrive. I was told 5 more minutes, after a further 10 minutes, a waitress came to our table to say my husband choice of lunch, which was the roast special was finished and they didn't have my second choice of food. (which was the gammon steak) . She asked if we would like to reorder something else. I asked her why it had taken this amount of time to tell us this, she did not respond and walked away. I went to the counter and asked to speak to the manager. A waiter told me the manager was over there and pointed to the end of the room. No manager can forth. There seems to be no organisation in this cafe. None of the staff seem interested or attentive to the customers and most were hiding behind the counter. Can I suggest someone be in charge who can organise the staff and maintain a level of service which is sadly lacking at present. The staff in the shop are attentive, pleasant and are a delight to deal with, sadly I cannot say the same for the cafe.
We moved from the area some 3 years ago….and happened to be driving thro' and decide to visit an old popular haunt. The cafe was very very busy…with very few empty places….that should have been a clue to not stay! We did get served very quickly we ordered the quiche……but then we were told they’d run out…..whilst we were working out what to have …the waitress returned saying they've got 2 bacon quiches! We couldn't believe what they presented us with. We were hungry and we chose to eat them rather than send them back….big mistake! They were individually made and the paste, 2cm thick!, looked as though it had been forced into a tartlet case with a fist with 50% of the paste outside the the mould. The savoury custard filling was about a 50 mls with a teaspoon of chopped bacon and a sweet brown filling which we couldn’t identify. We tasted it, it was very sweet!…. and decided to pay and leave. I would liked to have discussed this with a manager…but none appeared to be available and we were needing to get back on our journey. This café is still very popular and the crowds there were clearly enjoying themselves….it was very like the Bury Lane we remembered….but too busy!
We have been to the cafe many times and the service/food has been ok. However our visit today (8/11) for lunch was the last time. We found a table as soon as we arrived, waited an eternity for anyone to take our order. My wife and I had the same, cappuchinnos and sausgae, egg chips. The coffee tasted like warm water (not a hint of coffee taste). The food eventually arrived and we asked for vinegar, the waitress bought one sachet and said that was all they had in stock. We shared the final sachet. The meal was just about passable, as we were rather hungry. Nobody came to the table to ask if we wanted anything else......not that we would but would have been nice to be asked. Giving the experience 2 stars in actually rather generous.
Came on a Saturday, Very busy, had to wait for a table but staff were great, as was the full English. I think a couple more waiting staff would have helped as they were really pushed and cleanliness/clearing tables suffered. Overall great
