Les Terrasses De L'aven - Orgnac-l'Aven

Me, my girlfriend and another family member had lunch here before going to se the famous grotto. Very difficult to get the attention of the people working there. Extremely slow with everything. My girlfriend selected the menu, I took a grill selection and entrecot for our guest. The meal was followed by two bottles of water (still and sparkling). The entre from the 3 part menu arrived together with my grill selection. We tried without luck asking when the entrecot would arrive. Then after we had finished that dish the entrecot arrived at the table. Grill plate was with french fries and something they called “bearnaise” but that had never ever been real bearnaise. The entrecot was bad from one end to rhe other more than 50% was left on the plate. The second dish of the menu was a mix of different meat parts in a stew but it was tasteless and then there was a long hair in it ... We stopped right there and decided to pay and go without dessert and coffee (that was included). At the table we got a promise of a discount that was not the case at the cassier from the owner. He had the nerve to ask if the food was OK after he got the description he said it was the first time today he heard something like that it would not have impressed me if he had claimed it was the first time this year. This place lives on that people never return you only go there to se the grotto and very few return while they still are around making lausy food. Don’t eat there!

This offers a very cheap deal for a starter (oddly called an ‘entrée’ and dessert, which was perfect for us, after the usual rather large, rather late, hotel breakfast. We enjoyed our starters, which were unpretentious but well done, and our desserts, which were likewise. Service was helpful. Then it was time for the superb cave…
