I stopped by this restaurant late at night looking for a snack. Having tried many shawarmas during my travels to the Middle East, I was eager to find a local spot that served them. I decided to try the chicken shawarma, and it was the best I've had in this country. The service wasn't exceptional, but it's more of a takeout place rather than a sit-down restaurant, although there are a few tables available.
Excellent food and excellent service. I went on a Sunday with my family and found that they had a very nice offer soup, rice or fries green salad and potato salad and shish taouq which is seasoned chicken cubes grilled on a stick with peppers...and onion. All of this was only which I believe is a bargain. Will definitely be returning again the place did look a bit plain but they told me that they were still in the process of decorating however this was nothing compared to the quality of food. Definitely recommend it.
Perhaps it would have been smart to trust my instincts perfect reviews from people who have only one review seemed a bit fishy. First the good: I went in for take-away and was welcomed graciously and offered complimentary tea while I waited...(and internet). The price was low enough food to feed happily for under pounds. The pilau rice was flavorful and well-cooked, and the veg samosas were fine though not special Now the not good: The aubergine cold meze was just slightly gone off. It had that fizzy sharp flavor that happens as things start to ferment. It's happened to good baba and hummus in my frig, fine one day, this flavor the next, and bulging and carbonated the day after it is easy to recognize. I would be more critical except that this seems to be a common occurrence in many restaurants. I am sure they would have replaced it if I had been back, but this was take-away. The tabbouleh was extremely bland. The chicken mundi was bland too good chicken flavor but spicing very subtle. The special soup (potatoes leeks lentils) was thick but also low in flavor. Overall this is a perfectly ok restaurant if you like your flavors very subtle, but having eaten at Pomegranate nearby, Al-Shami and LB's I can say that there is no way this is the best or even above average for Middle Eastern in Oxford.
I had the pleasure of dining at this charming and delightful restaurant. The service and food were both exceptional, and even the owner was lovely. The food was delicious and the portions were generous. I highly recommend trying out this restaurant, which is perfect for both young people and families. It is a new establishment that deserves to become a staple for both locals and tourists in Oxford.
