The Shack Riverfront While visiting a friend in Palm Bay Florida he recommended a seafood restaurant. However entering the parking lot, we found it closed. If you are not use to Florida establishments in the summer occasionally you will find they cut hours, days or even close until busy winter season. My wife used Google to search for “seafood restaurants near me” and saw The Shack Riverfront and while it does not look like much from the outside inside was large and roomy with many different rooms both inside and out. Everything about this place from the decorations and the wood wall smiling faces seemed to say welcome. The place only had a few people eating at lunchtime they had staff bending over to help you and make sure everything was to your liking. They have several bars inside and out we decide to eat in because even though we were on the water 95 F and muggy was not a good choice. They have a wide menu and everything looked like it was well thought-out and prepared with care. Our friend ordered a Caesar salad and Crabby Patty Sandwich which he said was perfectly prepared and the crab meat was moist. It came with fries and topped with red pepper aioli sauce. It seems many of their dishes have some type of sauce so if you are picky like I am read the menu. My wife ordered a Shrimp Po’boy which she really enjoyed. I wanted to try the coconut shrimp which is a favorite of mine and I always order it at Red Lobster. I especially love Red Lobsters Pina Coletta sauce which has chunks of Pineapple and coconut. While “The Shack” had nicely done meaty shrimp the sauce really had little taste. I guess however I am spoiled with the one from Red Lobster. While they only give you 7 shrimp on the coconut or fried shrimp plate, they are a good size and sweet. You have a large selection of sides. I went for the bake potato. It was disappointing that you are given a few pieces of frozen butter rather than the scoop many others places serve. Mine never defrosted. The Shack is right on the river and looking out the window you can not beat the view. The service was excellent and a man I assume was the manager stopped by and asked if needed anything. It gave you a warm feeling they care. While we do not live in Florida if we did, we would certainly put this on the top for our Seafood place to eat. Sadly, it seems that the lack of tourist and diners this time a year can hurt their bottom line everyone their seemed to love their job and were very friendly. Such a nice place I really hope it is busier at other times of the day. We only selected a few things on their large offering I noticed another table had a platter of fish that looked yummy. While the portions are adequate the cost appears on the slightly higher than we are use to. Fish sandwiches will run $22-26 and 7 fried shrimp with a side $22-25. That being said the people, the service, the view and the food make it worth it.
Mary was awesome. Made great recommendations and even had our food evenly split ahead of time when we told her we were sharing. It's our first time here. Hope to come back soon.
Beautiful place that makes you feel like you're on vacation, even if you live here. Micah was an exceptional waitress.
I have been to The Shack and this was favorite visit. Mary was our waitress and she was extremely friendly, efficient and enjoyable to be waited on by. I will be back!
