Barb mentioned that she had a "love-hate" relationship with the homeless man and allowed that to compromise the safety of other customers. Instead of calling the police, she suggested that I shouldn't let the racist comments get to me, claiming that this man had been homeless for 13 years and believed he was communicating with God. Let me be clear: that’s not how racism works; it directly affects its targets. Barb also pointed out that the restaurant's owner, who is a person of color, does not tolerate the homeless man during the daytime. If it's unacceptable for the owner to hear those racist comments, then it certainly shouldn't be acceptable for customers either. I found it troubling that the DJ, who also stated he has faced racism, chose not to act. Why did he remain passive when a situation like this unfolded? At one point, Barb made a baffling comment that my experience was somehow tied to my appearance, suggesting that the homeless man’s behavior might be excusable if it came from a good place. This line of thinking is deeply flawed and raises serious concerns about her understanding of racial issues, especially since she has three biracial children. It's disappointing that the establishment has not taken measures to ensure a safe environment. My suggestion to hire a bouncer who can recognize and respond to harassment, including racial harassment, seems obvious. When I mentioned I was from out of state and that this incident negatively affected my perception of Pittsburgh, the staff's response was dismissive, which is deeply concerning. I will always remember this experience, particularly in a city that has endured trauma like the tragic synagogue shooting. The bartender and DJ's inaction and lack of awareness are unacceptable, and I strongly believe they should be removed from their positions. Additionally, the restaurant's accessibility for those with disabilities was inadequate, which needs to be addressed as well. Overall, I urge management to make significant changes to ensure the safety and comfort of all customers.
Bartender/owner is great and personable. Very relaxing atmosphere.
This used to be the best sports bar in Sq Hill when it was Silky's. Since it was sold it has gone down hill big time. It's not a sports bar as the bartenders watch what they want not what the customers want. Big time attitude, high prices for warm beer and bad drinks. Food is inedible. It is really sad since I have been going to this place since 1990 as it was a great sports bar and now with the new ownership it stinks. Don't waste your time and money. I would give a zero if possible.
I went here on a Thursday and it was so chill. So nice sitting outside having a couple drinks, so good we came back Friday. Great music and great customer service. Definitely a good atmosphere between the music and people. The food is just as good too. I got wings they’re probably the best wings I’ve ever had!
