We have been eating in Pont Aven for years and have had both good and bad experiences Today we went to the Roz Aven expecting to be able to get an assiette de crudities for my vegan husband but were told that they couldn't do...a salad and the only vegan option was soup. We left and went to Chez Matty ey Matto, which we have passed a few times and thought it looked nice. We asked if they could cater for a vegan and they said it was no problem. The chef came and spoke to my husband and said if he didn't want the salad on the menu she would prepare something different and with cooked vegetables which he had. The atmosphere is lovely, feels like being on holiday with the music that they were playing and it was nice to be sat on the terrace in October. My main was a Caquelon of 5 fish and gambas that was a delicious fish broth with lots of chunks of perfectly cooked fish with a large gambas on top. It was obviously cooked to order and was lovely. My husbands was lots of different vegetables plus salad and rice all cooked well and plated beautifully, the presentation was exceptional and the food fresh and delicious. Service was attentive but not fussy and the geese who came up from the river were very amusing. We will definitely return. Do note that they are open seasonally from the start of March til mid November.
In a touristic place you can expect anything, but this restaurant is surprisingly good. The food is delicious (juicy guinea fowl) and the plate is made up like an art piece with lots of colours and healthy vegetables. The waiter was very busy, but stayed...very calm and friendly. We loved it and we laughed about the 2 gooses in front of the terrace. It's maybe a bit more expensive, but we would recommend. So much better than the restaurant we went to today in Pont-Aven (see my other review).
Terrace looked nice and we managed to get the last table so were pretty pleased. Drinks came quickly. 6 oysters took about 15minutes to arrive and then we began to realise that none of the other tables had been served any food in that time....Our steaks arrived 30 minutes later with the explanation that the originals had been served to another table. It would have been nice to have been told this before then offered a glass of something to pass the time. Steaks were over cooked and needed more time resting. Vegetables were just odd and everything needed more seasoning. Avoid, avoid, avoid
Great spot to catch unaware tourists. Went to go upstairs and tutted at by an unkempt waiter with racking cough. Sat at table looking at pretty uninspiring menu, no service, no waiter, no drinks. Left after 15 minutes and glad we did. Went to Cafe...Noir. Great find.
