The Green Elephant Vegetarian Bistro

We were sooooo happy to visit the wonderful people at the Green Elephant in Portland Maine today. We ordered appetizers brussel sprouts, and vegetable dumplings… fantastic. So flavorful and delicious. Then our entrees arrived, pad Thai (made without egg) and the tofu and vegetables with brown rice. Everything I have ever ordered here has been perfection and this meal was no exception! Then we shared the sorbet trio with fresh berries for dessert… AMAZING! Visited Saturday last. We ordered from the specials board, some impressive-sounding Thai name, a noodle dish, for about $19. It didn't arrive for ages, and when it did, it was a huge bowl of coconut milk with a tiny, tiny, I mean really tiny, amount of noodles blobbing around the bottom, and almost nothing else. Luckily the specials board was right over my head, so we were able to play a fun game of find the ingredients as we fished about hopefully in a bucket of sauce, looking for something to eat. Clearly the kitchen had begun running out of ingredients (it was 8.45 and the place was emptying out), but rather than tell us, they obviously decided to chance it' by giving us a half-measure of noodles, doused in milky slop. I would have sent it back, but we were under pressure for time, and we had to eat, so that was that. Besides, certain members of staff appeared to be going through a rough patch, so we figured we'd eat what we were handed and get out of there. All in all, a very disappointing experience. The Tofu Green Curry was adequate, no more or less.

Had one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time here tonight

My family and i had the most delicious food of our trip at the green elephant. i are everything vegan but my parents added egg and were very happy with their meals. we also got this delicious chocolate orange cake that my sister cousin and i ate in two seconds. I came here this summer with my family and we were blown away by the delicious food. There were so many great vegan options, but there was also tons of vegetarian options for my parents and cousin. Updated from previous review on 2022-03-13
