Scenic Punakaiki

Lovely position right on the beach. Waking up to hearing the wave was a highlight. Very friendly and welcoming staff, we had a lovely evening meal in the restaurant, breakfast was lovely and a great view. Perfect place to stop over to see pancake rocks and rest along west coast. After a long day of traveling, we were happy to find this restaurant open at a later hour. Nice wine choices and a variety of fine dining entrees to choose from. Lovely space quiet and spaced out from other diners.

Stopped in for lunch and my partner and I really enjoyed it. Beautiful location and reasonably priced for pretty nice food, we had the fish and beef burger. Honest food cooked nicely. Decided to come back for dinner and unfortunately experience was quite different. Chicken was cooked fine but almost tasteless, and the “broccolini” that was supposed to be on that dish was just broccoli with probably the thickest stalk I’ve ever seen. Venison was also a bit over cooked, and truffle risotto on that dish didn’t taste like it had any truffle in it at all. Both dishes were far smaller than those we got for lunch yet were much more expensive. Would come back for lunch any day, but give the dinner a miss.

Had a well appointed room with a great ocean view. Delicious pre-ordered dinner with prawn cocktail, medium rare scotch fillet with chips and salad, and yummy ice cream and sorbet. Good helpful attentive service staff. Rooms: 5 Service: 5 Location: 5 Hotel highlights: Great view
