They had just introduced their Christmas buffet. The food was superb. Freshly made soup, salads and smoked salmon. Excellent choice of mains: roast turkey, lion of pork with crackling to die for and beef wellington that melted in the mouth. Excellent choice of fresh vegetables. The deserts selection and ice cream bar carried on the theme of very good quality. An excellent meal and good service. However, there is a very high price to pay. There were two of us and we each had the buffet and a large beer. I he total cost was £180.00! The restaurant is part of the Fosshotel Reykjavik.
The food is varied and outstanding!! The service is top notch. The ambience of the restaurant and hotel are just perfect!
After our evening tour was cancelled 3 times, we decided to spend the money on an evening in Haust restaurant. I 'd read excellent reviews in the weeks prior to our trip so was keen to visit. The place was beautifully decorated, and felt very festive and cosy. We went for the 'Wild Game ' buffet a variety of dried and freshly cooked meats with a variety of sides. The lamb and red wine jus was phenomenal. The other dishes were interesting but nothing topped the lamb for me. We went just after dinner service began at 6pm, and there was just two tables occupied which was a bit of a disappointing atmosphere. The chefs hadn 't yet started cooking meat so there was an awkward wait for it. But the beauty of being the only people in the restaurant meant they spoiled us with plenty of meat cuts. It has to be noted that the desserts were utterly disappointing. Most were just inedible, we didn 't finish any of our desserts. This was a big let down for the price we paid. Overall, I wouldn 't say it was worth the £65 per person we paid but the selection was great, and flavours of most of the food was fabulous. Dessert definitely needs improving, it just wasn 't up to standard. Presentation wise was great but taste was awful.
We were staying at the Fosshotel and ate the dinner buffet in Haust and it was superb. Similar price to other Reykjavik restaurants i.e. expensive but you can eat as much as you want. Huge selection of excellent starters and slightly underwhelming desserts and choice of grilled turkey or lamb for main my wife maintains that the lamb was the most tender she has ever tasted.
