Patio dim sum is my new addiction. Yang 's is my second venue for this new pandemic induced need. Yang 's provided better tasting food along with better service than my previous patio experience. Lack of vegetable dish options was mildly disappointing. Pricing here is slightly higher than most gta dim sum restaurants. All the dim sum dishes were quite delicious; I noticed a tiny bit of edible cartilage in the sui mai. The steamed rice rolls dish had Périgord black truffles and iberico pork! Other standard dishes include rice rolls with shrimp/snow pea leaves, congee with pork ribs, beef tendons, pork ribs, sticky rice with meat, sui mai and shrimp har gow. Yang 's Chinese Cuisine is marginally closer to 4 than 5 stars and is a recommended restaurant.
While the food was acceptable, all other aspects of this restaurant were deplorable. We had a 12 noon reservation and were forced to wait one hour and 15 minutes to be seated. To add insult to injury, we then had to wait an additional hour to be served our dim sum lunch. When I paid, I did not even check the outlandish bill (for over $70) but realized later I had been charged for 2 special dishes at almost $8.00 each, and we had only one. Also, there are no credit cards accepted in this establishment, even during these days of Covid when careful restaurants do not even accept cash. Why wouldn 't Yang 's take only cash that way there is no savings to the customer for taxes paid, but surely they are not submitting the total taxes to the government. In addition, they do not need to pay a percentage to the credit card companies even though their prices are steep. When I paid, fully preparing to leave a tip, despite the most horrible and neglectful service, the manager reminded me that I should leave a tip. I hope the servers benefit from tips, in which cases it 's not their fault that the restaurant overbooks and overworks them. All in all, this restaurant cares little about their customers from all that we witnessed. We travelled a long way (from downtown Toronto) to have outdoor dim sum. We will not do so again, to be sure.
Don't recommend, service was terrible for their self-proclaimed high-end establishment. Cash only, will not provide receipt and no explanation of why not. Seems shady. Public health wise: patio was crammed to maximize seating, there wasn't even enough room to push a regular stroller between the tables, nevermind 2 meter distancing. The washroom was filthy. Food: okay but lots of other dim sum options in this price range.
I tried their dinner previously and they generally offered decent quality of food. Recently, I ordered their dim sum combo takeout and it didn't disappoint me. Pork bone and peanut congee: it was very flavorful and the rice melted in your mouth right away. This dish fulfilled all my expectations on Cantonese congee. Shrimp dumpling: nothing too special about it, the skin was a little soggy. Steamed rice roll with beef: I'm generally not a big fan of beef, but I really liked the smooth texture of the dish. Chao Zhou style of shrimp dumpling: nothing too special. Steamed chicken feet: It was one of the best chicken feet among the dim sum places in town. Flavourful and soft. Radish puff pastry: The stuffing tasted pretty good, but the skin was a bit soggy. I wouldn't blame the chef too much though since it was a takeout order. Grilled squid: Very flavourful dish and it was served with decent amount. Black sugar and honey steamed bun: One of my favorite dish. The sweetness level was just about right and it tasted so soft. Despite that the price was a bit on the expensive side, the takeout dim sum here was not bad!
