Jiggs Takeout is a busy spot, and a recently renovated St. Peter's institution. The new building has seating on a covered deck with a view of the water. Jiggs sells fish, lobster, scallops, burgers, fries, etc, and hard ice cream (Scotsburn) soft serve. I got the fish home fries. The homemade fries cost extra than the from-frozen fries. The fries were good and there were lots of them. The fish... I say it was fresh, my husband thought otherwise. The problem was the coating. The photo on the menu looks like typical English style battered fish. Jiggs fish, like Chubby's Lunch down the road, has a coating, not a batter. Disappointing! I think it must be a Cape Breton preference. It would have been okay, but it was incredibly oily and therefore soggy. The bottom coating stuck to the takeout container, rather than the fish. There was a pool of 2-3 tablespoons of oil in the corner of the container. The coleslaw was very bland. Tartar sauce was from Kraft. Tried the soft serve, too. It tasted very good, but it was too soft, so it slumped and melted after dipping (and it's only 10*C today).
I love the new Jigs if you are not happy with the fish Get the Lobster!!! Summer ice cream lobster it doesn't get better than that !! Well maybe if they had wineLOL We took our French fries to the beach I will admit fries and sand not a good idea but my fault not Jigs
Just waited 30 mins for a chicken finger platter.... when I went up to the counter to ask how much longer they told me they didn't even start making it yet. If you can spend a day here waiting for your food I'm sure it's great but if you need something on the fly this is not the place to hit up.
Don't eat badly. I've seen a lot of people all the time, so maybe the expectations were high. Try it again. Food: 4 Service: 5 atmosphere: 4
