You have done it again! A great pork belly bacon sandwich with olive tapenade which even my boyfriend liked (he doesn't like olives)! Any Wednesday you are in Salem is worth a stop at Back Alley Bacon! Mmmmmmm! Can't wait until I can make it for the next time!
A true Salem treat! Each Wednesday morning on Facebook, Back Alley Bacon posts a single menu item, the price (cash only, exact change) and the secret password. Be at the side door [WELL BEFORE] 5:00. When the light goes on, push the intercom and give the password! They will ask you name and how many you want. Now switch to the other side of the door line and wait for your name to be called. Amazing and delightful meal based around bacon and pork! Great quality, huge portions and truly a fun dining experience!!
I've been a fan for years but their response to a comment I posted on their Facebook page was aggressive and rude so I can no longer recommend them. To be honest, the food hasn't been as good lately but I chalked it up to a pandemic year and kept regularly going at least once a month, sometimes waiting in the cold as they didn't open on time while trying to socially distance and stay warm. But no more and that makes me sad. They had a post plugging their poutine dish and someone commented they hoped it was made with the squeaky curd so I replied that I hoped so too (as I was excited to try it) and they responded that neither of us know real food and to stop eating at the 99. Um.... real poutine IS made with squeaky cheese curds. I know it's the in thing around here these days to substitute any cheese but to insult someone that wants the real curds is really poor customer service. I'm not sure why a business would reply and be rude. I've been to Canada numerous times a year (not counting 2020 and beyond for obvious reasons) for a decade and have had poutine and know how it's properly made. Plus, I wasn't even being rude, just echoing someone hoping for squeaky curd. Really shocked at their response to a simple comment like that and makes you wonder what their response would be to a real issue or complaint.
Absolutely a place worth visiting, the food is fantastic and well prepared, the pricing is fair and it is consistently neat there. Keep up the good work.
