A lot of the character has gone, and more tables have been squeezed in. Poor service at the bar when ordering drinks and food a young guy not engaging at all and lots of shouting and laughing coming from the kitchen when he went through. The food arrived was it as good as on the menu? In a word, no. Cheap ingredients, not over warm. My teenage son could have cooked a better meal with a tenner for ingredients from Iceland. Served on our grubby table too have they given up wiping the tables after departing customers? Are J Cloths, anti Bac sprays now a thing of the past? Other tables looked the same if this is the front of house, how bad is the kitchen/food preparation area? No one came over to check if the meal was okay. If the pub chain who now own this once fine establishment are reading this, you want to get in a new manager, train the staff and get the place back up to the standard it used to be, because at the moment it is shocking and soulless, and a great disappointment.
Used to be a really great pub but we went last night (19th Jan 24) and all four meals were poor. Nothing like the description in the menu. It turns out glazed veg is tinned peas, no chicken hardly in the chicken pie and tiny portion sizes. I'm sure you get the drift. As for cleanliness
Called on a Saturday evening to have something to eat. Tables filthy, covered in crumbs, and looked like they hadn't been wiped since opening time. All beer mats soaking and falling apart. All menus sticky and everything felt quite grubby for a pub that has been refurbished recently. Neither of the taps in the ladies were working either. Feels generally like no one is bothered about the place and has lost its atmosphere completely. Won't call again, didn't eat. If the public part of the pub is this grubby, wonder what the parts behind the scenes are like.
Such a shame the pub is lovely with fantastic views over the harbour and in a great position. Nice staff, friendly and informative BUT we knew we’d have a problem when at opening they said they hadn’t had their delivery of ‘mashed potatoes’ Despite this we ordered pie and mash oh boy don’t waste your money awful rock solid piece of mash pie was ok but not made fresh- just go for drinks and soak up the views and friendly atmosphere
Very unfriendly service, the lady serving at the bar was quite rude, we left after one quick drink. Such a shame as it used to be a great pub
