Aggressively mediocre. In today's term: this place is so mid. As an asian person living in Somerville, I keep coming back to this place because I have a glimmer of hope inside me that the next meal I have here would redeem all the previous. But after my fourth time here, I can confidently say no matter how they rebrand the menu and say it's new, this place just does not hit any of the right spots. I've tried their Jajang, their Jampong, tangsuyuk, boo dae chigae, and they are just all missing something. Perhaps it's the lack of staffing or dimly lit atmosphere, there hasn't been a single experience I've had here that makes me wanting to come back for more (aside from convenience, and that's a big stretch). From the bottom of my heart, I hope one day in the distance, I can stumble back in out of necessity, and be impressed by the food. But two years counting, Buk Kyung has been neutralising my tastebuds through mediocre korean food.Prices are expensive, come if you really need korean food.
The food was good, especially the JabChae, and the service and staff were all very kind and helpful. I'm looking forward to returning.
Buk Kyung is one of the best hole-in-the-wall Korean restaurants in the Boston area. The service is always very prompt and attentive, food comes out quick and is always consistently delicious, and dishes are cheap and well portioned to feed at least 2 people. Definitely one of my favorite restaurants currently, A+.
9/4/22 edit: still an amazing restaurant! I've been coming here since I was in high school and it never fails to impress. They've recently updated their menu and now offer kalbi (pictured) and I'm obsessed! New favorite item. They're scallion pancakes are my favorite in the entire world. Their bulgogi and ganpoongi (spicy fried chicken) are my go to entrees, but this kalbi is definitely a new addition. I also love their jjajangmeyeon (black bean noodles)! You seriously cannot go wrong with this awesome, family owned restaurant. The staff is wonderful and friendly! AMAZING FOOD AND AMAZING SERVICE. MY FAVORITE SPOT!
