Expensive £8.50 for a toasted sandwich. Hot chocolate was luke warm. 2 baby chinos ordered £2.50 each )did not come with marshmallows, they cost extra apparently ! Staff not friendly. At table we sat at there were pieces of food still on floor from a previous customer. I won’t be patronising this cafe again which is a shame when taking children to the museum. They’ll need to rethink menu, prices and their customer service if they are to succeed the River and Rowing Musem
The staff behind the counter were unfriendly. Is it too much to ask for a smile? The dishes we ordered did not match what was listed on the menu. I would not suggest going to this restaurant.
When this was run by the Chocolate Cafe it was good, but I've been twice since it reopened under new management and both times the service has been terrible. The waitress was packing up and ignored me until she'd finished packing away the cakes and pastries. Then when the coffee arrived, it was weak and the flapjack I ordered (unseen, since it was packed away) was covered in sticky coffee goo. Apparently they don't do plain flapjack. Next time I may park at the R&R museum (now free for one hour), but I'll walk back to the Chocolate Cafe in the town.
After hearing about the museum cafe under new management, we were excited to give it a try. The signs outside advertising "organic coffee" and "artisan" offerings caught our attention. We decided to order the Allotment Vegetable Soup, which was described as featuring seasonal market vegetables with bread and butter. However, what we received was disappointing - the soup seemed to be made with tinned tomatoes, large chunks of soggy vegetables, dried herbs, and an excessive amount of oil. It was unclear which season these ingredients belonged to. I reached out to the owners to provide feedback, but unfortunately did not receive a response. Overall, we were unimpressed and do not plan to return to this cafe.
We enjoyed a delicious full English breakfast, coffee, and pastries while sitting outside on their lovely and tranquil terrace. We were very impressed with the breakfast - the ingredients were high quality, the presentation was excellent, and it was a good value for the price. We definitely plan on returning!
