This is one of my favorite sushi restaurants. I've never been disappointed, either by the food or the service. It's a small restaurant, but they do more take out than sit ins, so it's not crowded. And now I'm craving some sushi
I was in Springfield today, and noticed Hinari Sushi as I drove down Morris Ave. I had been here many years ago, and recalled that I liked it, so I decided to stop in for lunch. My first observation upon entering was that there was nobody in the restaurant; no diners and no employees. Upon yelling HELLO? , an elderly lady slowly emerged from the back, but said nothing. I asked if they were open, and she replied that they were, but there was no warmth or sense of welcome. I felt like I was intruding their solitude. I was hungry, and the fish in the cooler at the sushi bar looked fresh so I decided to stay. I ordered the sushi lunch special, which included 2 rolls and miso soup. The selection of choices included in the lunch special was quite limited, but that 's not unusual. I chose to keep it simple and ordered a tuna roll and an Alaska roll, which was supposedly salmon, avocado and cucumber, but they forgot the cucumber. The miso soup was flavorful and hot, but nothing special. The sushi was actually quite good. The tuna was very fresh and the nori on the outside was good quality. The cucumber-less Alaska roll was also good. The salmon was equally fresh, had nice fat, and to be honest, I didn 't really miss the cucumber. Both rolls had the appropriate fish to rice ratio, and the presentation was appetizing. I would have given an additional star if the staff was more welcoming and the service was better. I was never asked if I wanted a drink, or offered water. After the meal was served, the lady did stop by once to ask if everything was ok, but then vanished into the back and never returned. I eventually had to get up, walk to the back and yell out that I 'd like to pay. I am curious what their other sushi offerings taste like, and it wasn 't a horrible experience, but I 'm not really that anxious to return. The food was good. The prices were reasonable. Unfortunately, the dining experience just wasn 't very enjoyable.
Really good place, and super quick too to make the sushi, I always order different flavors and they got them all in less than 5 min, really impressive
Such a hidden gem with delicious food! Everything is fresh and tasty. The atmosphere is very welcoming and cozy. It was quiet on Saturday afternoon.
